Additional Information

Perched atop a hill resembling a stronghold and overseeing the meeting point of the Onyar and Ter rivers, Girona is an ancient city encircled by walls. It holds a revered position as a provincial capital and has a rich, extensive history. Initially established by the Iberians, it was later christened Gerunda by the Romans who made it a vital station on the Via Augusta that connected Iberia and Rome. The city is widely recognised for its massive 15th-century cathedral that features the largest unsupported gothic arch on the globe and forms a distinguishing part of the city landscape. Nonetheless, much of the city’s allure is in wandering through its medieval lanes, particularly in the captivating Jewish sector. A popular city landmark is ‘ Pont de les Peixeteries Velles’, a bridge over the Onyar River constructed by Gustave Eiffel. This thorough tour (around 3 hours in duration) will introduce you to Girona’s significant monuments, historical chronicles, Jewish roots, and even its fables. Our tour guides are locals well-versed with the city’s hidden gems.

We love the trip! - The trip is perfect for first-time visitors with limited time. The guide led us through the oldest part of the city with stories and historical background about each scene. This helped us to appreciate the beauty of the city more easily and efficiently.

Gerald made our trip - Gerald was easily the best tour guide we ever had. He knew everything, I mean everything. He was so helpful with us and our stroller finding the best ways for our family to go in a city of stairs. We loved every minute with him in February. I can't believe it's taken this long to write it. I've been recommending this tour to everyone we know planning on going to Spain. Gerald made girona for us. Great recommendations for food and drink as well.

Girona Family Tour - My family of 7 ended up with a private tour of Girona. It is a beautiful well preserved city with a lot of rich history and Ona filled us in on a lot of pop culture references from filming as well. Perfect way to spend 1/2 day with the remainder of a day to explore on our own.

Worthy stopover - Monica, our guide, our historian and regional booster, was terrific. So much so that we will recommend Giriona as a destination for our globe trotting son.

Great tour! - Our guide Monica was born and bred in Girona and has an impressive amount of personal and professional knowledge of its history and legends. We learned a lot and really spent time seeing the highlights of Gerona from all angles (literally and figuratively). I would not recommend this for younger children as it’s three hours long without a break, but if you want to get an insider’s perspective of the fascinating history of Gerona, I would highly recommend this tour. You must be able to walk up hills and the many stairs around the city (99 at the cathedral alone!). Make sure to bring a bottle of water, as there is none available during the tour.
