The city of Girona remains largely unexplored by the majority of tourists who visit Catalonia. Girona, a mere 35-minute high-speed train ride (AVANT) away from Barcelona and 45 minutes from France, has been the stage for monumental conquests, battles, and historical conflicts. This is reflected in the city’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. The Romans established Girona more than 2000 years ago, its ancient Roman and medieval walls offer visitors stunning vistas of the city. Girona’s Jewish and medieval district is among the most well-preserved in Europe, genuinely a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. History echoes down its narrow, cobblestone lanes. The city was the birthplace of Nahmanides, a celebrated Rabbi and Jewish Kabbalist philosopher from the 13th century. One can also explore the bridges spanning the Onyar River, including the most famous one constructed by Gustave Eiffel, and savour the peaceful atmosphere of this charming city.
