- Pyramids of Giza - The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza necropolis, is located in Egypt and features the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their respective pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx. These structures were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, around 2600 to 2500 BC. The site also encompasses several temples, cemeteries, and the remnants of a workers’ village.
Situated at the edge of the Western Desert, the site is approximately 9 km (5.6 mi) west of the Nile River in Giza and about 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of Cairo’s city center. It represents the northernmost section of the 16,000 ha (160 km2; 62 sq mi) Pyramid Fields of Memphis and its Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The pyramid fields also include the Abusir, Saqqara, and Dahshur pyramid complexes, all constructed near Egypt’s ancient capital, Memphis.
- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue depicting a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a human head and a lion’s body. It faces directly from west to east and is located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face is believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre. Originally carved from bedrock, it has been restored with layers of limestone blocks. The Sphinx measures 73 m (240 ft) in length from paw to tail, 20 m (66 ft) in height from the base to the top of the head, and 19 m (62 ft) in width at its rear haunches.
The Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and one of the world’s most recognizable statues. Archaeological evidence indicates it was created by the ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during Khafre’s reign (c. 2558–2532 BC).
- Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau (Arabic: هضبة الجيزة) is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, and the site of the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It forms the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields at the edge of the Western Desert in the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is elevated approximately 60 meters above sea level.
- Egyptian Museum - The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly referred to as the Egyptian Museum (Arabic: المتحف المصري, romanized: al-Matḥaf al-Miṣrī, Egyptian Arabic: el-Matḥaf el-Maṣri [elˈmætħæf elˈmɑsˤɾi]), also known as the Cairo Museum, is located in Cairo, Egypt, and houses the world’s largest collection of Egyptian antiquities. It contains over 120,000 items, with a significant portion on display. Situated in Tahrir Square in a building constructed in 1901, it is the largest museum in Africa. Among its treasures is Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s collection, including the iconic gold burial mask, widely regarded as one of the most famous works of art in the world and a prominent symbol of ancient Egypt.
- Khan Al-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili (Arabic: خان الخليلي) is a renowned bazaar and souq in Cairo’s historic center, Egypt. Established as a trade center during the Mamluk era and named after one of its historic caravanserais, the bazaar district has become a major attraction for both tourists and Egyptians. It is also home to numerous Egyptian artisans and workshops producing traditional crafts and souvenirs. Historically, the name Khan el-Khalili referred to a single building in the area; today, it denotes the entire shopping district.
