Khufu’s pyramid complex features a valley temple, now buried under the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, but the site remains unexcavated. The valley temple was linked to a causeway, mostly destroyed during the village’s construction.

Cairo Citadel - The Citadel of Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) is one of the most iconic monuments in Islamic Cairo and among the most impressive medieval defensive fortresses. Its strategic location on the Muqattam Hills provided a formidable defensive position and offers an unrestricted panoramic view of Cairo.
Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi initiated the construction of a fortress on the Muqattam Hills in 1176 AD (572 AH), but it was completed during the reign of Sultan al-Kamel ibn al-Adel in 1207 AD (604 AH), who made it the official residence of Egypt’s rulers. In the mid-19th century, Khedive Ismail moved the official residence to Abdeen Palace in downtown Cairo.
