- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) in Giza, Egypt, is the largest of the three Giza pyramids and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Constructed around 2600 BC as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty, it stands as a symbol of ancient Egyptian civilization and a marvel of architectural and engineering prowess.
The Great Pyramid of Cheops reaches a height of about 146 meters (481 feet) and was the tallest man-made structure for millennia until the steeple of Old St. Paul’s Cathedral in London surpassed it in 1221 CE. It comprises roughly 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. The precision in quarrying, transporting, and assembling these massive stones is a testament to ancient engineering skills.
- Pyramid of Menkaure - The Pyramid of Menkaure, also known as Mykerinos, is one of the three pyramids at the Giza site near Cairo, Egypt. Built during the Fourth Dynasty around 2515 BC, it served as the tomb for Pharaoh Menkaure.
Standing at approximately 65 meters (213 feet), it is the smallest of the Giza pyramids. The architect Hemon, who also worked on the Pyramid of Khufu, is believed to have designed it. Originally covered in smooth, polished Tura limestone, much of this outer layer has been removed, exposing the rougher inner structure. The pyramid complex includes three smaller pyramids for queen consorts and an adjacent mortuary temple.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Also known as the Pyramid of Khafre or the Pyramid of Chefren, Khafre’s Pyramid is one of the prominent pyramids on the Giza Plateau. It is the second largest pyramid and was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khafre, the fourth ruler of the Fourth Dynasty.
Khafre’s Pyramid stands at about 136 meters (446 feet) and is constructed from limestone blocks. Although slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid of Khufu, its higher ground location makes it appear taller. A notable feature is the remaining casing stones at its apex, with some original polished white limestone still visible near the top.
- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx is situated on the east side of the Giza complex. Egyptologists generally agree that the Sphinx’s head represents Pharaoh Khafre. The complex also includes smaller satellite structures known as “queens” pyramids, causeways, and valley pyramids.
After the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.
- Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000-hectare Pyramid Fields in the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is elevated about 60 meters above sea level.
