The other two pyramids were constructed for Khafre and Menkaure, Khufu’s son and grandson. Khufu’s pyramid is the oldest and largest, and it remained the tallest structure for 3,800 years. The Giza plateau is also home to many other monuments, with each king’s pyramid being part of a larger complex.
• Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza, carved directly from bedrock during the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC), is the most famous colossal statue of ancient Egypt. It represents the king with a lion’s body, symbolizing power. The Sphinx is believed to have been carved during Khafre’s reign (c.2558–2532 BC). It is located next to Khafre’s valley temple and the lower part of the causeway leading to his mortuary temple and pyramid. Archaeological analysis shows that the valley temple was completed before the Sphinx and its temple. The Sphinx’s facial features resemble those of Khafre’s statues.
• Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Located 40 km southwest of Cairo, Saqqara is a significant cemetery of Memphis, one of ancient Egypt’s most important cities. The site’s name likely comes from the god Sokar. Saqqara is an open-air museum showcasing ancient Egyptian history. It is the burial site for kings and noblemen from the first two dynasties (c.3040–2686 BC) and the location of the Step Pyramid of Djoser (c.2686–2667 BC). The pyramids of notable Old Kingdom kings from the Fifth (c.2494–2345 BC) and Sixth (c.2345–2181 BC) Dynasties are also here. The pyramid of Unas (c.2375–2345 BC) features the oldest pyramid burial chamber decorated with texts, known as Pyramid Texts, meant to protect the king in the afterlife.
• Memphis and Sakkara - Memphis, or Men-nefer, was the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt. Its ruins are near the modern village of Mit Rahina in Giza, Egypt. The name Memphis likely derives from the late Ancient Egyptian name for the city, meaning “Road of the Ram-Headed Sphinxes.” Along with the pyramid fields extending over 30 kilometers on its west, including the Giza Pyramids, Memphis and its Necropolis are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site is an open-air museum featuring the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. Memphis dates back to 3100 B.C. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
• Gizeh Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields in the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis. The plateau is about 60 meters above sea level.

These texts, first found in Unas’s pyramid, continued in the pyramids of later rulers and evolved into the Coffin Texts and the Book of the Dead.
