- Pyramids of Giza - Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo or Giza, or from the airport, and begin your tour of The Giza Pyramid Complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. This site includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. All were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The area also features several cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village. Situated at the edge of the Western Desert, it is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) west of the Nile River in Giza, and about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of Cairo’s city center. You can also enjoy camel rides here.
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Cheops is the Greek name for King Khufu, the second pharaoh of the 4th dynasty of Ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom Period. The 4th dynasty is often referred to as the ‘golden age’ of the Old Kingdom, largely due to the enormous size and quality of the pyramids built during this era. Starting with the pyramids that Khufu’s father, Sneferu, constructed at Dahshur, the 4th dynasty pyramids were larger and more refined than any others built before or after them.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre (c.2558–2532 BC), known to the ancient Greeks as Khefren, was a son of King Khufu (Cheops), the builder of the Great Pyramid. He built the second pyramid complex at Giza and constructed his tomb on slightly higher ground, making it appear just as tall as his father’s. Standing at 143.5 meters in height, his pyramid is only slightly shorter but remains an immensely impressive monument. Its core masonry is made of blocks of local limestone.
- Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure (known as Mykerinos to the ancient Greeks; c.2532–2503 BC) built the third of the three large Giza Pyramids. He was likely the son of Khafre (Khefren) and grandson of Khufu (Cheops). With a base area less than a quarter of the size of the other pyramids and an original height of 65 meters, Menkaure’s pyramid is the smallest of the three. This reduction in size is due to several factors, including the limited space left on the Giza Plateau.
- Great Sphinx - We will have a close-up look at The Sphinx, the legendary guardian with a lion’s body and the head of King Chephren, standing by the massive funeral complex. This is a great spot to take amazing and funny pictures with the Sphinx.
- Memphis and Sakkara - Next, you will visit Memphis, an ancient Egyptian city and World Heritage Site founded in 3200 BC by King Narmer. It was the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom (dynasties 3-6) and the era when the god Ptah (god of craftsmen and architects) was worshiped.
- Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - You will also visit the Step Pyramid built for King Djoser, an important part of the evolution of pyramid construction, transitioning from the simple mastaba to its more widely known form.
- Pyramids of Dahshour - Finally, you will visit the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid. You can also enter the Red Pyramid. Your tour will conclude with your guide dropping you off at your hotel or the airport.
