The total weight of the stones is 6 million tons. The Khufu Pyramid is the largest pyramid and the last of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - The second-largest pyramid, though it appears to be the largest because it is built on a rocky base that is 10 meters higher than the largest pyramid. It is one of the three pyramids on the Giza Plateau and is associated with Pharaoh Khafre, who ruled during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.
- Menkaure Pyramid - The Pyramid of Menkaure is one of the pyramids on the Giza Plateau. It is also called the Sacred Pyramid, a name chosen to distinguish it from the pyramids of his father and grandfather in the Giza area. Menkaure chose to build the lower part of the pyramid with granite brought specially from Aswan via the River Nile. A wooden coffin with his name was found and is now preserved in the British Museum.
-
Great Sphinx - The Sphinx is a massive limestone statue symbolizing strength in ancient Egypt. It combines the mental strength of humans, represented by the head, and the physical strength of a lion, the king of the jungle. Memphis and Sakkara - Memphis, founded by King Menes, served as the capital of Old Egypt for over 3000 years. It reached its peak under the 6th dynasty, focusing on the worship of Ptah, the god of creation. The alabaster sphinx at the Temple of Ptah stands as a memorial to the city’s former power. The Memphis triad, comprising Ptah, Sekhmet, and Nefertem, was central to the city’s worship. After a decline during the 18th dynasty, Memphis saw a revival under the Persians but eventually yielded to Thebes and later Alexandria. Notable monuments include the Statue of Ramses II and the alabaster sphinx.
