The two temples, with their unique style, are masterpieces of ancient Egypt, reflecting the glory of the New Kingdom. The Egyptian government and UNESCO collaborated to save these temples from flooding. The Temple of Ramses II is dedicated to the gods Ptah, Re-Her-Akhtey, Amun-Re, and Ramses II himself. The Temple of Queen Nefertari, also known as the Temple of Hathor, symbolically unites Ramses II, Nefertari, Hathor, and the Sun God.

Valley of the Kings - The Valley of the Kings is renowned for its magnificent burial architecture. Many kings are buried here, including Tutmosis I, Tutmosis III, Tutankhamun, Ramses VI, Merenptah, and Amenhotep II. This royal burial ground features exquisitely decorated tombs for pharaohs who ruled Egypt between 1539 and 1075 BC. There are over 60 tombs, though only a few are open to the public. Here are the best tombs to visit in the Valley of the Kings.
Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, known as El Dir El Bahari, was built by Queen Hatshepsut, daughter of Thutmosis I, who ruled Egypt for about 20 years during the 18th Dynasty (approximately 1490-1469 B.C). She was the only female pharaoh to reign over ancient Egypt. Designed by Senenmut, Hatshepsut’s steward and architect, this mortuary temple resembles classical Greek architecture from 1,000 years later. Located on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Luxor, Hatshepsut’s temple is part of the Theban Necropolis and marks the entrance to the Valley of the Kings. The main building of the temple is called Djeser Djeseru (holy of holies).
Colossi of Memnon - The Colossi of Memnon are two monumental statues representing Amenhotep III (1386-1353 BCE) of the 18th Dynasty. Located west of Luxor, they face east towards the Nile River. The statues depict the seated king on a throne adorned with imagery of his mother, wife, the god Hapy, and other symbolic engravings. Each statue stands 60 feet (18 meters) high and weighs 720 tons, carved from single blocks of sandstone.
Temple of Karnak - Karnak Temple is the greatest example of worship in history, dedicated to the God Amon, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. The Karnak Temple Complex, near Luxor, comprises a vast mix of temples, pylons, chapels, and other buildings. Construction began during the reign of Senusret I in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom, with most buildings dating from the New Kingdom. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut, the main place of worship for the 18th Dynastic Theban Triad, headed by the god Amun. Part of the monumental city of Thebes, Karnak was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The complex gets its name from the nearby modern village of El-Karnak, 2.5 kilometers north of Luxor.
