The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also features several cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village.

The complex is situated at the edge of the Western Desert, about 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile River in Giza, and roughly 13 km (8 mi) southwest of downtown Cairo.

The Great Pyramid and the Pyramid of Khafre are the largest pyramids constructed in ancient Egypt and have long been symbols of ancient Egypt in Western culture.

• Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, but the site remains unexcavated. The valley temple was linked to a causeway, which was mostly destroyed during the village’s construction.
• Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex features a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
• Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple contained several statues of Khafre, some of which were discovered in a well in the temple floor by Mariette in 1860.
• Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx is located on the east side of the complex. Egyptologists generally agree that the head of the Great Sphinx is that of Khafre. In addition to the major monuments, there are several smaller satellite structures, known as “queens” pyramids, causeways, and valley pyramids. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
• Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields on the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.

The plateau is approximately 60 meters above sea level.
