Highlights
  • ATM - We will teach you some special recipes of Teta Marjeta, a lady that loves cooking and will open her home for us. We step inside Marjetas home, sip on a glass of raki produced by her husband and try your hand at some vegetarian recipes. We sit down to savor the fruits of your labor with your guide and Marjeta. We meet at Cerciz Topulli square and walk over to one of the oldest neighbourhoods in town “Pazar i Vjeter”. The food we are going to prepare is a vegetarian menu, and under the guidance of Marjeta we will learn three dishes. The first one is called “Qofte bobollaqe” consisting mainly on yogurt, the traditional “Qifqis” found only in Gjirokaster and consisting mainly on rice and the desert called “Hasude”. All these three are accompanied by the salad of the season Marjeta has already prepared for you. After all the hard work, sit down with your group to savor each of your dishes. Pair your menu with a complimentary glass of wine, raki, or a soft drink and have a nice chat while you eat. Your cooking class will conclude after the meal. In the end a recipe of what you have cooked will be given to you to prepare the same thing at home whenever you want. Cheers and Bon appetite!

Additional Information

Our rendezvous point is at Cerciz Topulli square. Here, you’ll link up with your tour guide and proceed to one of the oldest districts, “Pazar i Vjeter”, where you’ll be introduced to Marjeta and her spouse. Our culinary journey kicks off with a friendly conversation over a glass of raki or a non-alcoholic beverage, accompanied by your fellow participants. Today, we’ll focus on a plant-based array of dishes, and Marjeta will lead us as we prepare three recipes. Our first dish, “Qofte bobollaqe” chiefly involves yogurt. Next, we’ll experiment with “Qifqis,” a specialty found only in Gjirokaster, with its primary ingredient being rice, before ending with the dessert “Hasude”. To accompany these three dishes, Marjeta will have a seasonal salad prepared. Once all the cooking has been accomplished, you’ll sit with your fellow group members to sample the fruits of your labor. Accentuate your culinary creations with a free glass of wine, raki, or a non-alcoholic drink, and enjoy the conversation as you dine. The conclusion of your cooking class will be after the meal.

Here’s to a wonderful meal and Bon Appétit!

Amazing experience for a surprise trip with a friend - I organized a surprise trip to Albania to my best friend and also this experience was a surprise to her. I thought it was a great idea of us to connect with local culture and learn something we can both bring home. Marieta was such a nice lady, she made us feel super comfortable. Also having a translator was something interesting! I highly recommend and I’m sure I would do it again!

Perfect! - This cooking class was a 10/10! I was alone during this class, which surely made the experience even more personal. Marjeta is very friendly, as well as Klarissa, who was there to translate my English and the Albanian of Marjeta. I learned a lot, and I came out very satisfied with this experience, with a good dinner, leftovers, and nice pictures taken by Klarissa. I completely recommend this unique experience in Gjirokaster.

Cooking amazing local food with Marijeta! - This was one of the best parts of our 2-week trip in the Balkans! The host, Marijeta is talented and charismatic. Our translator was a brilliant and funny high school student who was very skilled at translating and being in conversation. We do cooking classes in every place we visit and this one was less hands-on than others we’ve done but incredible food and a great vibe overall.

Learning to cook - Usually I am a good eater, thats way my friends suggested me to try a cooking class so I can start to cook and not asl them to cook for me. It was a great expierence, i learned and took the menus written on paper with me. The view from the house was great and you could take a real flavor of Albanian womans, the way they behave and take care for the family. Highly suggested experience.

Cooking class - This experience feels more like a cooking demonstration than a hands on cooking class. It would be better if each person or group of 2 had their own cooking station rather than one cooking station for everyone.
