Antigonea, also known as Antigonia and Antigoneia, was an ancient city located in Chaonia, Epirus. It served as the main inland city of the ancient Chaonians. The city was established in the 3rd century BC by Pyrrhus of Epirus, who named it in honor of his wife Antigone, the daughter of Berenice I and step-daughter of Ptolemy I of Egypt.

- Antigonea Archaeological Park - The Archaeological Park of Antigonea is situated within the remnants of the ancient city of Antigonea, which was established by Pyrrhus of Epirus as a gift for his wife, Antigone. The National Archaeological Park of Antigonea is located just 14 kilometers east of Gjirokastra. This national park is a significant archaeological site in Albania. Antigonea was founded by King Pyrrhus of Epirus (319 – 272 BCE), from whom we derive the phrase ‘a Pyrrhic victory’.

Covering approximately 95 hectares, the Antigonea Archaeological Park and its surrounding area are rich in environmental values, although the biodiversity of the region has not been fully explored. The Lunxhëria region, where the site is located, is renowned for its rich ethno-cultural traditions. The majority of the territory is adorned with meadows filled with colorful flowers and lush polypod forests.
