Antigonea, also known as Antigonia and Antigoneia, was an ancient city located in Chaonia, Epirus. It served as the main inland city of the ancient Chaonians. The city was established in the 3rd century BC by Pyrrhus of Epirus, who named it in honor of his wife Antigone, the daughter of Berenice I and step-daughter of Ptolemy I of Egypt.

The National Archaeological Park of Antigonea is located just 14 kilometers east of Gjirokastra. This national park is a significant archaeological site in Albania. Antigonea was founded by King Pyrrhus of Epirus (319 – 272 BCE), from whom we derive the phrase ‘a Pyrrhic victory’.
