- Gjirokaster - The next stop on this tour is the “My Muse” Memorial. This memorial honors Musine Kokalari, an Albanian female intellectual, writer, and politician from Gjirokastra. She was Albania’s first female writer but faced persecution by the communist regime for her dissenting views, enduring imprisonment at Burrel and hard labor in Rreshen. Despite living in poverty, she maintained her passion for reading and writing. Discover Mrs. Kokalari and her inner world at this must-visit memorial museum.
- Ethnographic Museum - The third stop of the tour is the house where dictator Enver Hoxha was born and raised. This house, which was burned and rebuilt five times larger, is a dwelling steeped in history, both peculiar and absurd. Visitors will learn about how his leadership began, marked by resentment and punishments for opponents, acquaintances, and even childhood friends. The history of the house itself is fascinating, transitioning from Enver Hoxha’s home to the Museum of Weapons, and finally to the Ethnographic Museum. After exploring the historical area of Gjirokastra, the tour will conclude with a brief presentation in our hall, where guests can enjoy a coffee. The presentation will highlight aspects less visible to visitors.

During your tour, you’ll undertake a unique journey through time, focusing on aspects usually hidden from the casual observer. Authentic stories, facts, and revelations will expose you to the bleakest periods of Albanian history. We’ll unravel key societal ideologies that were forcefully instilled in the populace, like ‘The Concept of the Young Man’, what it implies in the context of Albanian society, proletariat dictatorship, school and art philosophies, and lifestyle disparities between urban and rural residents. We’ll dissect how these doctrines were implemented by the then governing regime in Albania. Supporting evidence, primarily in the form of preserved photographs and archive materials from Gjirokastra families, will be used to substantiate our discussions.
