The village is situated on the slopes of Mali i Gjerë and at the southern end of the Labëria province, on the right side of the Gjirokastër - Kakavija road. Lazarat has a rich history dating back to the Illyrian period. According to legend, there were two brothers, Clay and Color. Argjiri and his sons built the castle of Gjirokastra, while Kollori constructed a smaller castle in what is now Lazarat, where its ruins can still be found. In the 16th century, the village resisted the pressure to convert to Islam, leading some of its population to move to Greece. There, a village named Lazarat still exists, and its inhabitants spoke Albanian until recently. The people of Lazarat supported Ali Pasha Tepelena with weapons and fought to defend Ioannina from the Ottoman army.
