• La Pasionara - The La Pasionaria monument, situated in Glasgow, Scotland, is a statue honoring Dolores Ibárruri, the Spanish communist leader and political activist famously known as “La Pasionaria” (The Passionflower). The statue portrays Ibárruri in a strong and resolute pose, holding a book and a rose. It was unveiled in 1979 on the Clyde Walkway, Glasgow, symbolizing the city’s solidarity with the International Brigade that fought against Franco and Fascism during the Spanish Civil War. Notably, this statue was revealed just 4 years after Franco’s death and in the same year that Britain elected Margaret Thatcher. This is a prime example of Glasgow being out of sync with Westminster consensus, and for good reason!
• The Clyde and the Kelvin - We cycle along the paths of both of Glasgow’s rivers and, if the mood strikes, we stop at a few points along the way.
• People’s Palace and Winter Gardens - The People’s Palace in Glasgow is our favorite museum in the city! This historic building, dating back to 1898, houses a captivating museum that narrates the story of Glasgow’s working-class people from 1750 to the present. Inside, you’ll find exhibits on the city’s social and industrial history as well as its cultural heritage, all presented in an engaging manner. There’s an intriguing exhibit on some of the city’s wealthy individuals involved in industries linked to enslavement. We consider this museum a must-see!
• Glasgow Green - Glasgow Green is a scenic park in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland. It is the city’s oldest public park, with a history dating back to the 15th century when Bishop Turnbull gifted the green space to the city’s residents. The park features various attractions, including the People’s Palace (more info below) and the old Templeton Carpet Factory. Visitors can also explore the Doulton Fountain, one of the largest terracotta fountains globally, or take a walk along the river Clyde, offering great city views. The park is also a popular spot for sports and activities, with facilities for football, hockey, and nearby rowing. Additionally, Glasgow Green hosts several festivals and events throughout the year, making it a lively destination for locals and tourists alike.
• Glasgow Women’s Library - The Glasgow Women’s Library is a museum and resource center in Glasgow, Scotland, dedicated to collecting, preserving, and promoting the education and knowledge of women’s lives, histories, and achievements. The library holds a wide range of materials, including books, archives, and artifacts, documenting women’s experiences and contributions throughout history. The library also hosts various programs and events, such as lectures, workshops, and exhibitions, engaging visitors with its collection and promoting the study of women’s history. The GWL’s mission is to celebrate women’s achievements and raise awareness of women’s history, providing a space for people to learn, share, and be inspired. It is now the only Accredited Museum dedicated to women’s history in the UK and a designated ‘Recognised Collection of National Significance.’
• Buffalo Bill Statue - The Buffalo Bill statue in Glasgow is a must-see for any Wild West enthusiast visiting the city! Located in Dennistoun, the statue depicts the famous American showman William “Buffalo Bill” Cody.

Unveiled in 2006 and commissioned by Regency Homes to mark their new development in the adjacent street, the bronze statue stands over 10 feet tall, with Buffalo Bill confidently sitting on his horse, holding a rifle in one hand and a buffalo horn in the other.

• Wellpark Brewery - This historic brewery is the perfect destination for beer lovers. Brewing delicious suds since 1885, the brewery is still going strong today!

Home to the famous Tennent’s Lager, a crisp and refreshing beer that has quenched Scotland’s thirst for over a century, visitors can tour the brewery to see the brewing process in action and sample some of the delicious brews.

The tour isn’t just about the beer; it’s also an opportunity to learn about the rich history of the brewery and Glasgow itself. The Tennents Wellpark Brewery has been a vital part of the community for over a century, and the tour offers a glimpse into its contribution to the city’s culture.

• Merchant City - The Merchant City in Glasgow played a significant role in the transatlantic slave trade during the 18th and 19th centuries. The area was a hub for tobacco and sugar merchants, many of whom amassed fortunes through enslaved Africans. Many merchants in the area were involved in the slave trade, and their wealth helped finance the city’s development. The area’s historic buildings and monuments, including the impressive tobacco lord’s townhouses, still stand as reminders of the city’s involvement in the trade.
