Glencoe - Day 1
The journey begins at 9am from Glasgow. The first stop is a brief visit to Stirling Castle for a 10-minute photo opportunity, where significant battles were fought within view of the castle walls. The route continues through Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, leading to the breathtaking Glencoe (a 2-hour drive), where a hike into The Lost Valley is planned. The hike duration varies between 2 to 3 hours, depending on the group. Before starting the hike, a visit to the Glencoe Visitor Centre is scheduled to watch short films about the glen’s formation and its historical inhabitants. The centre also features a well-stocked café. The hike into The Lost Valley begins around 1:30pm, with stories of the 1692 Glencoe Massacre shared along the way. After the hike, the journey continues to Fort William for pre-booked accommodation, with an estimated arrival time of 5:30pm. Fort William offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars with live music for a well-deserved drink.
Across the Sea to Skye
Glenfinnan - Departure from Fort William is at 9am, heading to Glenfinnan, home to a monument marking where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his troops first assembled at the onset of the Jacobite Rising of 1745. The Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films, is also located here. The preferred hike is further along the road, leading to Peanmeanach village and its beach, a 4-hour walk offering spectacular coastal views. The journey then continues with a ferry ride to Skye, offering beautiful views of Knoydart, and possibly dolphins trailing the Calmac ferry.
Accommodation is arranged in the Portree area, with an estimated arrival time of 5:30pm.
Isle of Skye
The Old Man of Storr - A day of hiking on the Isle of Skye begins with a trek to the Old Man of Storr, a 55-meter high rock pinnacle on The Trotternish Ridge. This hike follows a well-maintained trail and takes about 2 hours to complete, sometimes less. Further along the road is The Quiraing, a more challenging hike that takes around 3 hours. The Quiraing is a dramatic landscape featured in films such as The BFG, King Arthur, and Macbeth. Return to accommodation.
Travel to the Home of The Loch Ness Monster.
Eilean Donan Castle - The evening will be spent in Inverness, the highland capital of Scotland. After a long day of hiking, today will be more relaxed, with numerous photo stops at Eilean Donan Castle, Glen Sheil, and Loch Ness, with the possibility of a swim with Nessie. Inverness is renowned for its nightlife, offering numerous venues with music from traditional and local bands, as well as a notable whisky tasting bar. Estimated arrival time is 5:30pm.
Return to Glasgow
Culloden Battlefield - Departure is at 9:00am.
After breakfast, a visit to Culloden Battlefield is planned, where the Jacobite Risings concluded in 1746. The battlefield can be viewed from the visitor centre’s roof. A short 5-minute drive leads to Clava Cairns, believed to be an ancient burial site approximately 4000 years old. The journey continues south towards Pitlochry, with a final hike in this area or nearby at The Hermitage. The trip concludes with a drive over the Forth bridges near Edinburgh, finishing at The Kelpies before returning to Glasgow. Estimated arrival time is 6:00pm.
