Into the Heart of the Simien Mountains

The moment I set foot in Gonder, I felt the familiar thrill of anticipation that comes with embarking on a new adventure. Our journey began with a drive from Gonder to Debark, where we obtained our permits and met our scout. The road to Sankabar was a winding path through landscapes that seemed to whisper stories of ancient times. As we trekked from Buytras to Sankabar, the air was crisp and filled with the promise of discovery. The sight of the Gelada baboons, with their expressive faces and flowing manes, was a moment of pure magic. Day two took us deeper into the heart of the Simien Mountains, as we made our way to Geech. The trek was challenging, yet every step was rewarded with views that seemed to stretch into eternity. The campsite at Geech, surrounded by the towering giant lobelia plants, offered a serene respite. A Farewell to the Peaks

Our final day in the Simien Mountains was a trek to the Imet Gogo promontory, a place that offers one of the most spectacular views in the entire range. Standing there, with the world spread out before me, I was reminded of the vastness of our planet and the small role we play in its story. The sight of the Lammergeier vultures soaring above was a testament to the wild, untamed spirit of this land.

As we made our way back to Ambaras and then to Gonder, I carried with me not just photographs, but memories of a place that had touched my soul.
