Highlights
  • Mostar - Bosnian cuisine uses many spices, but usually in moderate quantities. Most dishes are light, as they are cooked in lots of water; the sauces are fully natural, consisting of little more than the natural juices of the vegetables in the dish. Typical ingredients include tomatoes, potatoes, onions, garlic, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, spinach, courgette, dried and fresh beans, plums, milk, paprika and cream called pavlaka and kajmak. Typical meat dishes include primarily beef and lamb due to Islamic dietary laws, although the Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Serbs can consume pork. Some local specialties are ‘evapi, burek, dolma, sarma, pilav (pilaf), gulaš (goulash), ajvar and a whole range of Eastern sweets. The best local wines come from Herzegovina where the climate is suitable for growing grapes. Plum or apple rakija, is produced in Bosnia.

Fantastic! - I was the only one on this tour, so it ended up being an excellent dinner and conversation with Sasha at a delicious local restaurant. In Bosnia going to dinner is an event and some thing that you take your time with. They don’t rush you out as soon as they see you’re done they make sure that you are completely fulfilled with food drink coffee everything before you leave. Sasha was fantastic and taught me so much about Bosnian culture and their life style. I would 100% recommend this tour.

Tasty and knowledgeable dinner - Our guide Sacha had lots of local knowledge and spoke very good English. He was able to organise a dinner where we tried all of the local foods for dinner and even gave us recommendations of what else to do in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Very well worth the visit. Sacha also picked us up and drove us into town for the meal as well. Great service and lots of knowledge
