Sailing the East Coastline: A Day of Discovery and Relaxation in Kassiopi
Eager to explore the east coastline of Corfu, I embarked on a cruise to Kassiopi, a journey that promised both relaxation and adventure. With the ocean as my playground, I was ready to discover the hidden gems of this beautiful region.
Setting Sail from Gouvia
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself in Gouvia, ready to embark on a journey that promised both relaxation and adventure. The air was crisp, and the anticipation of a day spent on the water was palpable. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today was no different. The cruise to Kassiopi from Corfu was about to begin, and I was eager to see what the east coastline had in store.
Our motorboat set off, hugging the coastline of Nissaki, Kalami, and Kouloura, with the Albanian coast visible to our right. The captain, a jovial man with a wealth of local knowledge, pointed out landmarks along the way, each with its own story. The gentle rocking of the boat and the salty breeze were a reminder of why I love island life so much. It was a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation, a theme that runs through many of my adventures.
Discovering Kassiopi
Arriving in Kassiopi, a traditional fishing village, felt like stepping back in time. The village was charming, with narrow streets and friendly locals who greeted us with warm smiles. I took the opportunity to explore the ruins of the old fortress, a hike that rewarded me with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The fortress, though weathered by time, stood as a testament to the village’s rich history.
After the hike, I indulged in a leisurely lunch at a local taverna, savoring fresh seafood and the vibrant flavors of Greek cuisine. The village offered a perfect blend of culture and relaxation, a place where time seemed to slow down. It was easy to lose track of time wandering through the streets, each corner revealing a new story or a hidden gem.
A Swim in Agios Andreas
As the day began to wind down, we made our way back to the boat for the return journey. But before heading back to Gouvia, we made a stop at the Agios Andreas cave. Accessible only by boat, this secluded spot was a hidden paradise. The crystal-clear waters beckoned, and I couldn’t resist diving in for a swim.
The water was refreshing, and as I floated on my back, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for moments like these. The ocean has always been a source of inspiration and peace for me, and this was no exception. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the water, I knew this was a day I would remember.
The journey back to Gouvia was serene, the night air cool and crisp. Wrapped in an extra layer, I reflected on the day’s adventures, grateful for the opportunity to explore yet another beautiful corner of the world. This cruise was more than just a boat trip; it was a reminder of the simple joys of life and the beauty that surrounds us.
