Additional Information

Our cruise is unique in that we operate in the diverse Algoa Bay, rich in wildlife and history. Visiting St Croix island, home to half the worlds remaining endangered African Penguins. This tour is run just once a day instead of trying to run multiple cruises in one day. This ensures that our skippers and guides are fresh and alert for every cruise and makes it possible to spend more time and effort searching for wildlife in our Bay or observing something special that we come across provided that no one on board is in a rush to get back for a flight or bookings previously made. Our main focus is education, conservation and assisting in research which is made possible by the funds generated from our Marine Eco-Cruises out into Algoa Bay. Trees are planted to balance our carbon footprint for each cruise conducted. We use smaller boats so as to keep our cruises personal. Our skippers and Guides are very knowledge and are there to answer any questions and see to the needs of our Guests.

An incredible morning in Algoa Bay - Had the most fantastic morning in Algoa Bay with Raggy Charters hosted by Jake and Thube. We really didn’t know what to expect as we had been whale watching off San Diego about 8 years ago and thought it was good. Well today’s experience just blew us away. Three whales about 50 metres from the boat and breaching!! It was breathtaking! The whales were just sowing off for the cameras and there was about 20 passengers onboard. We all got great photos even me with my mobile phone caught the action. Thanks to Jake who knew to time the whale’s dive to about 4 minutes them up it comes. Thank you Jake! Then we headed to St Croix Island once cover with about 60,000 jackass penguins now reduced to a few hundred since the 1990s thanks to the illegal activities on St Croix and the removal of guano so important to nesting penguins. Thankfully this is now a protected marine conservation area and there is a glimmer of hope that penguins will return in years to come. The finale of our tour in the bay was seeing a pod of approximately 150 bottlenose dolphins frolicking in the surf line and around our boat. We were able to observe their behaviour for forty minutes before our return to the harbour in Port Elizabeth.

Very special and very good! - Great experience, the skippers and the rest of the crew went out of their way to find whales and we have therefore seen several and also the explanation about this one was good. We also saw what is very special: swimming penguins. And also seals and Dolphins. There was even special sailing to the dolphins when actually time had already passed. Super!

An amazing experience of a lifetime - An amazing experience, highly recommend. Saw humpback whales, bottle nosed dolphins, cape fur seals and south african penguins. Jake and Purity were awesome and information was superb. A brilliant fact is the conservation they are involved in and these trips help fund it. Thank you Raggy Charters for a truly memorable experience.

Excellent trip and Friendly staff. Jake went that extra mile to make sure we had a most interesting experience. - We enjoyed the trip tremendously as the weather was good. Jake and Thube are a wealth of knowledge about the Penguins, whales and dolphins as well as the history of the island outside Port Elizabeth.

A morning in Algoa Bay - highly recommended - Loved this whole trip, we were lucky with the weather, after strong winds yesterday. Friendly, informative crew (Jake, Keith and Thabo) took us out past Cape Recife lighthouse looking for whales; we saw a few who didn't stay visible for long but further out we found two males swimming together, jostling and bumping into each other - they kept us enthralled for half an hour! Other highlights - everal albatrosses, many Cape Gannets, a Subantarctic Skua that landed on the front of the boat looking for handouts! On to St Croix island, en route we saw two Bryde's whales feeding, African Penguins and many more Gannets. All in all a splendid morning - it was bitterly cold out on the deep sea but there were sheltered areas on the boat where I was grateful to get out of the wind.

Amazing sightings of whales. Keith and Purity were excellent - The trip was so enjoyed by the whole family - 3yrs to 67yrs. We went right up the coast to the mouth of the Sundays River and then across the Bay to the 3 Islands.
