Raw and Authentic - This is my very first flamenco show so I don’t claim to be an expert. But this is an account of my experience. I intentionally chose Cueva Zincale because I wanted an authentic performance in a small and intimate cave. I wanted to be close up to the performers. Zincale does not offer dinner and show - again my preference because I didn’t want to pay for mediocre food and table seating around me. They offer a 7pm, 8pm and 9 pm show. Each show lasting 50 minutes. Advanced booking through their website is recommended. We took a taxi up the hill from Albaicin and visited the Cave Museum (see my review). After visiting the museum, walked an easy 5 minutes down the road to Zincale, arriving 20 minutes before our 7pm booking. The venue seats approximately 25 people and there’s not really a bad seat, but I recommend a seat closer to the entrance as opposed to the stage. You can order a drink if you want but it’s not necessary. The show starts off with guitar music. I myself am a musician so I appreciated the quality of music. Then the male vocalist begins to sing. For my experience, I felt he was screaming so loud it was uncomfortable to the ears. Then finally the dancer. I really enjoyed this part of the show. Her passion and talent was clearly demonstrated. The show consisted of 75% music and 25% dancing. I wish it was the other way around with more dancing. I did enjoy the show and to experience a part of their culture was very interesting. But it was not completely as what I expected. In my opinion (as a flamenco noobie) the flamenco show at Cueva Zincale is very raw and authentic, but maybe not for everyone. The flamenco shows in larger venues in town are more theatrical and less ‘in your face’. I do recommend attending a Flamenco show when in Granada, just find one that suits your taste.
