Opened on January 10, 1863, as part of the Metropolitan Railway, Baker Street was the birthplace of a groundbreaking idea – transporting passengers beneath the crowded streets of Victorian London. Reducing a 90-minute journey to just 20 minutes, the ‘Met’ transformed city travel and laid the groundwork for Metro systems worldwide. Explore closed-off sections of the station, including original platforms, disused lift shafts, and hidden corridors – some of which have not been accessed by the public since 1945. Discover the station’s history as the Operational Headquarters for London Underground and hear firsthand stories from those who worked and played there over the years.
