Comprehensive and entertaining Jack the Ripper tour. - Our guide, Hadi, was fantastic! He had a great grasp of the history, not only of the Ripper case, but of Whitechapel and the City of London. While walking to the various locations, Hadi engaged in friendly conversation with us and gave us tips on places to visit. I highly recommend taking thusbtour with Hadi.

Great afternoon in Whitechapel - The Ripper tour was indeed a ripper. Great afternoon with our wonderful host Hadi who took us to all the places where Jack terrified Whitechapel. Hadi was very knowledgeable about the crime spree and we also learnt lots about other English history. Hadi even has his own theory of who Jack the Ripper was and if you want to find out you'll have to join his tour. No spoilers!

Jack the Ripper - Whitechapel - Pleasant tour of Whitechapel with a small group of only four people. Our guide Hadi told exciting stories and explained a lot about the area and the time. Overall highly recommended.

Give it a Miss - The tour was fine, I liked that the group was not large and the guide was friendly. But the guide wasn't a good story teller; it felt like she just blurted fact after fact without a clear story arc. Her rhythm could also improve, as much of the tour was monotone. I'm surprised by the stellar reviews on here, and it goes to show that it is pot luck whether you get a good tour guide or not. You're better off getting a free tour where you can tip on their performance and knowledge rather paying £20 upfront.

Sadly disappointing - I think it is generally understood that people go on Ripper Tours for the same reason they go to London Dungeons—in search of the right balance of information and entertainment, with the inflection being on the latter. This tour unfortunately considers itself to be firmly in the former camp, with very few of the credentials to back it up. Everything I learnt on this tour could be easily found on Wikipedia or any popular podcast on Jack the Ripper. This was especially grating as there was no theatrics (top hat, dramatic storytelling, hammed up cockney accent etc.) to counterbalance the lack of high quality historical information (not that I expected this, if I wanted an in-depth examination of the Whitechapel murders I would read an academic monograph on the topic). This was made even more of a drag by the fact that our guide, Haidi, felt it necessary to shoehorn in irrelevant information and his own political opinions at practically every other stop (not to mention a woefully inaccurate, politically charged explanation of the absence of pigment from Roman busts—the relevance of which to Jack the Ripper escapes me). I appreciate he is new to the job, and he was at his best when he was explaining who he thought the killer might be, but overall I walked away pretty unimpressed. He explained to us that most tour guides go for a “cloak and top hat” approach, and that he was avoiding that and charting his own path. Again, the problem is that he misunderstands the fact that anyone going on a walking tour of Whitechapel wants precisely such an approach, and anyone interested in a serious, forensic historical inquiry of Jack the Ripper will be found at the British Library. This tour certainly wasn’t worth £20. My recommendation would be to invest that money in some frock coats and fake blood, and provide the actual level of “infotainment” most people want from these tours.
