Isthmus of Corinth - The Isthmus of Corinth is a slender land bridge linking Central Greece with the Peloponnese. The canal carved through it connects the Saronic Gulf with the Gulf of Corinth. Spanning approximately 6 kilometers, its narrowest section is where the Corinth Canal was constructed (1880-1893). Historically significant, a wall was erected here in ancient times (late 5th century BC) and remained until the Byzantine era (Hexamilion).

Akrokorinthos - Akrokorinthos is a steep, 575-meter-high rock that served as a lookout (Acropolis) in ancient times, guarding against invasions from central Greece or the sea. This monolithic rock overlooks the ancient city of Corinth, Greece. George Forrest described it as “the most impressive of the acropolis of mainland Greece.” With a reliable water supply, Acrocorinth’s fortress was often the final defensive stronghold in southern Greece, controlling the Isthmus of Corinth and preventing land entry into the Peloponnese peninsula.

Temple of Apollo - The Temple of Apollo is an ancient structure built with 40 monolithic Doric columns, of which only seven remain standing over the ruins of the ancient marketplace. The original temple, dating from the early 7th to early 6th centuries BC, was constructed from stone, bricks, and wooden beams, featuring a heavy, complex four-pitched roof made of clay tiles. It was likely a simple design without external columns, but notable in other aspects.

Nafplio - Nafplio is a town where Greek and Italian influences converge. Characterized by stepped streets adorned with bougainvillea-draped balconies, elegant neoclassical buildings, and inviting shops and restaurants, it is considered the most charming town in the Peloponnese. Once the capital of Greece before Athens, Nafplio’s architecture reflects Venetian, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Modern Greek styles.
-
Bourtzi - Bourtzi is a castle situated on the islet of Agios Theodoros in the middle of Nafplio’s port, about 400 meters from the pier. The name “Bourtzi” is derived from Turkish-Arabic, meaning “island-fortress,” and it, along with the Palamidi Castle, is a symbol of Nafplio. Originally named “Castello dello Soglio” by the Venetians, the port was called “Porto di Cadena” (Port of the Chain) because each night, five brothers would stretch a chain from the rampart to Akronafplia, closing the port for security. Later, the Turks added an underwater stone barrier called “porpela” to prevent large ships from approaching. To visit Bourtzi, small boats from the Nafplio port are available. The trip takes 10 minutes, with 20 minutes of browsing time, and costs 4€.

Palamidi Castle - Palamidi is a fortress located east of Acronauplia in Nafplio, Peloponnese. Perched on a 216-meter-high hill, the fortress was built by the Venetians during their second occupation (1686–1715). Despite its large and ambitious design, it was completed relatively quickly between 1711 and 1714. Designed by Venetian engineer Antonio Giancix and constructed by French military engineer Pierre de la Salle, it was captured by the Ottomans in 1715 and remained under their control until 1822, when it was seized by the Greeks.
