The Cappadocia Green Tour, also known as the Cappadocia South Tour, is a favored excursion in the area. Guests are picked up from their Cappadocia hotels between 9:30 and 9:50 am. The tour begins at the Göreme Panorama viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of Cappadocia. Next, visitors explore the Kaymakli Underground City, originally named Enegup, where caves were first constructed in the soft volcanic rock by the Phrygians, an Indo-European people, during the 8th–7th centuries BC. The tour continues to Selime Cathedral, the largest rock-carved monastery in the region, which was once inhabited by the Hittite, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman civilizations. A traditional lunch is served at a local restaurant. Afterward, participants enjoy a leisurely 4km walk (approximately 1.5 hours) along the river through the Ihlara Valley canyon, which is dotted with cave churches carved by early Christian monks. The tour concludes with a visit to a stunning viewpoint in Uçhisar, overlooking the famous Pigeon Valley, where visitors can see pigeon houses carved from stone by ancient residents.
