- Goreme Open-Air Museum - Located 2 kilometers east of Göreme Town, this rock settlement was a hub of monastic life from the 4th to the 13th century A.D. The site features churches, chapels, dining halls, and sitting areas carved into the rock. The churches are adorned with paintings created using two techniques: directly on the rock surface and with secco (tempera) and fresco methods. The artwork depicts scenes from the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ. The Göreme Open-Air Museum, where the religious education system began, includes the Girls and Boys Monastery, St. Basil’s Church, Elmalı Church, St. Barbara Church, Yılanlı Church, Dark Church, Çarıklı Church, and Tokalı Church. It has been open to visitors since 1967.
