- Goreme - The Goreme open-air museum is a monastic complex featuring churches, refectories, and dwellings all carved from soft tufa stone. It served as one of the earliest centers for religious education. The museum area contains at least 100 churches and chapels dating from A.D. 900 to 1200, many adorned with frescoes that are still visible. A standout is the Karanlik (Dark) Church, which, due to minimal outside light, boasts some of the best-preserved wall paintings with the most vibrant colors.
- Love Valley - Locals have proudly named one of the region’s many valleys ‘Love Valley’ because of the numerous unique phallic-shaped rock formations that cover the valley floor at an altitude above 1,000 meters. It has become a popular spot for taking memorable photos.
- Avanos - Situated on the banks of the Kizilirmak (Red) River, Avanos is renowned for its Turkish crafts, such as rug-weaving and pottery-making. The area’s red soil is used to create distinctive ceramics. In Avanos, you can observe pottery-making and even try your hand at creating your own pottery.
- Ozkonak Underground City - Cappadocia is home to as many as 36 underground cities, troglodyte dwellings dating back centuries, used by early Christian tribes to hide from invading armies. Ozkonak, one of the smaller cities, was discovered in 1972 by a local farmer who found an underground room. Excavations revealed a city capable of housing up to 60,000 people across 10 levels. It is unique among the region’s underground cities for having holes carved into the tunnel roofs for pouring hot oil on enemies.
- The Three Beauties (Uc Guzeller) - These three fairy chimneys are among the most iconic figures of Cappadocia and are one of the region’s most photographed spots. The stone formations take on an artistic and lively appearance, especially under night lighting. With the imposing Mount Erciyes in the background, the Three Beauties offer a stunning palette of colors that is breathtaking at sunset.
