Splash, Sweets, and Spirits: A Family Adventure in Grenada
When I heard about a full-day tour exploring Grenada’s Concord Waterfall and traditional industries, I knew it was a must-do for our family trip. Join me as I share our adventure through waterfalls, chocolate, and rum, with plenty of family-friendly tips along the way.
A Splash of Adventure at Concord Waterfall
Our day began with a refreshing splash at the Concord Waterfall, a hidden gem nestled in the lush mountains of Grenada. As a family travel writer, I always look for activities that can engage both adults and kids, and this waterfall did not disappoint. The cool mountain water was invigorating, and my kids were thrilled to swim in such a natural setting. The surrounding greenery was a feast for the eyes, and the sound of cascading water was the perfect backdrop for a family bonding moment.
While the waterfall itself was a highlight, I must mention the stalls nearby. Although the vendors were a bit pushy, it was a good opportunity to teach my kids about handling such situations with grace. We ended up buying a bottle of vanilla, and despite the unexpected purchase of spices, it was a learning experience for all of us. Just a little tip: be mindful of the change you receive, as some places might not accept it if it’s marked.
Sweet Indulgence at the Chocolate Factory
Next on our itinerary was the Jouvay Chocolate Factory, a delightful stop for any chocolate lover. As we toured the small but fascinating factory, we learned about the process of turning cocoa into rich, organic chocolate. My kids were particularly fascinated by the machinery and the hands-on approach to chocolate making. Of course, the best part was sampling the various dark chocolates. It was a treat for the taste buds and a great way to introduce the kids to different flavors.
The factory also offered the chance to purchase chocolate at a price we didn’t find anywhere else on the island. We stocked up on a few bars to enjoy later, and I must say, they made for perfect souvenirs. This stop was not only educational but also a sweet indulgence that the whole family enjoyed.
Rum, History, and Scenic Views
Our adventure continued with a visit to the River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery, a place steeped in history and tradition. The distillery operates much as it did hundreds of years ago, and the tour guide’s passion for the craft was infectious. While the rum tasting was more for the adults, the kids enjoyed learning about the historical aspects and seeing the old machinery in action.
Lunch at Mount Edgecombe was another highlight, offering authentic Grenadian cuisine with a view that took our breath away. The kids loved the local dishes, and the setting was perfect for a family meal. We wrapped up our day with a visit to the Grand Etang Lake, where we enjoyed a rum punch (for the adults) and soaked in the serene beauty of the rainforest.
This full-day tour was a fantastic way to explore Grenada’s natural beauty and traditional industries. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable family moments. If you’re planning a trip to Grenada, I highly recommend this tour for a fun and educational family adventure.
