• Grinzane Cavour Castle - Constructed during the initial half of the 13th century, this castle has experienced numerous modifications in its design. The latest refurbishments took place in 1961, coinciding with the 100-year anniversary of the unification of Italy. This majestic redbrick edifice is designed on a trapezoidal layout, featuring four irregularly positioned sections encircling a compact central courtyard. In the 16th century, the structure was enhanced by the addition of two charming circular towers; the ornate ceiling in the Hall of Masks, adorned with 157 painted panels, also originates from this era. Presently, the castle is home to the “Cavour” Regional Enoteca, a dining establishment, and an Ethnographic museum dedicated to the agricultural lifestyle. The museum showcases a diverse collection, including artifacts associated with Cavour, wines from ancient Alba, culinary settings from the 17th and 19th centuries, various wine glasses, items linked to Alba’s gastronomic and vinicultural heritage, the workspaces of a blacksmith and barrel maker, a distillery from the 18th century, agricultural tools, scales and measurements, and details on truffles.

The sales include a permanent museum featuring unique culinary attire featuring local food and wine, a recreation of the Albese kitchen from the 17th and 19th centuries, an 18th-century distillery, a cooper’s workshop, and a farmers’ courtyard.

The castle was once the property of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour, a key figure in the Italian Unification. He resided here from 1832 to 1849 while serving as the Mayor of Grinzane Municipality. His contributions to viticulture are also notable. The castle houses his personal effects, original writings, and the tricolor sash of the Mayor.
