Perfect way to get in some surfing during a stay in the Dominican Republic! - The staff at Macao Surf Camp is the best! I've worked with them twice...once a few years ago, and again last week. Both experiences were fantastic! I have a decent bit of surfing experience, but the rest of my family does not. Five of our group took a group lesson, I just rented a surfboard. Everyone had a great time! We stayed at a resort a bit further up the coast. MSC arranged to pick our group up at the resort and brought us to Playa Macao. They are located at a public beach access, with a little facility that has a changing area, shower, and plenty of surfboards of all types (long, short, both hard and foam-topped). For people bringing towels/bags/wallets/phones, they are happy to safely store everything while you are surfing. They also have rashguards available to borrow if you need them. The section of beach to the immediate west of MSC is wide-open...so plenty of space to spread out. No competition for waves, no rocks, and no danger of irritating any locals. August isn't necessarily peak surfing season, but we experienced small (2-4 ft), friendly waves that were great for lessons...but also good enough for me to get in some short but gratifying rides. My family members taking lessons reported that the instructors were super-friendly, and as I was watching from down the beach I saw everyone up on their feet multiple times...with lots of triumphant, happy yelling. As you would expect, they also have staff taking pictures, so bring a credit card if you want to purchase (which we did in this case). After lessons/surfing...there is a small bar to grab a beer and a snack, and some locals selling crafts. (Also friendly and fun!) If you are after a serious, big-wave surfing experience (in August)...this might not be the place. But for a friendly morning of surfing, some great introductory lessons, and a staff that can handle the logistics, MSC is amazing! Great crew and memories to last a lifetime - I took my son on this excursion. The pickup and drop off was easy and our instructors were fantastic. We got one on one attention and were up surfing by the second wave. The beach is also stunning!! My advice, there will be someone who wants to take your pictures for an additional fee. I would recommend taking advantage of this. They guy stayed in the water for almost half the time and took almost 200 pics. i got numerous pics of my son and I riding waves together. I brought my phone in a waterproof case and there is just no way to get good pics while also trying to surf.

Best lessons, great photos as well. - Fantastic teachers, lots of patience and practice, highly recommend. Photography was a nice addition as well.

Great time with MSC - Awesome time with the MSC crew. My kids and I had surfed a few times in the past but it was a few years - after a quick popup technique refresher on the sand, they had us catching waves from the very first one. All the instructors were super friendly and helpful and had great tips along the way to improve our riding abilities. Would definitely recommend and go with them again!

We did it!! - My 18 year old brother and I (age 21) did this excursion and within 3 tries we got up! The guys that helped us were super well versed on surfing and kept us motivated. We appreciated that they were watching the weather before we went so we had the best experience we could. Really fun time and would recommend!

Great surf experience - Very skilled at making sure you catch a wave and get up on your board. Lots of helpers to assist with your board and getting back out to the waves. Our entire group of 11 were riding waves within the first 30 minutes

Great trip off the resort for something fun to do with the kids - We had a great time. The team were so helpful. Everybody got up on the board. Nice half day trip off the resort.. Well organized fun time.

Best Experience Ever - This was the best experience I’ve had on a vacation. Everyone was so kind, professional and helpful. We all had our own instructor which made it very easy for all of us to get up on almost all of our waves. We went into very nervous as we have never surfed and were so pleased that we were able to catch so many waves. Transportation too and from was also incredible! Picked us up at our door and the van was so clean. Definitely a must!!

Best day ever! - I had the best time with this company! The instructors made sure we got as many waves as possible and gave good tips to stay standing up on the waves! Everyone was really friendly and went to great lengths to make sure we had an amazing time, I'll 100% be going back next time I'm here!

Great experience and instructor! - The pick up was on time and transfers to and back very smoothly in a comfortable mini van. The surf school is really good and the instructors (one per person) made the difference and were very helpful. The only thing they need to improve is the quality of the surf boards they are very old and tired! They need replacing. Overall great experience to do whilst visiting Punta Cana.
