Relaxing tour with scenic landscape - Sam is an informative tour guide and a good singer too. She gave the group enough time to explore the point of interest we went too. The cruise in Li River was the highlight and the landscape just looks like a painting.

Outstanding views of the Li river mountains, spectacular evening show in Yangshuo - The views of the mountains around the Li river were amazingly beautiful. The evening in Yanghuo was fun, especially with the addition of an evening show recommended by our guide featuring local community fishers as well as water buffaloes and cormorants :). Our guide Lily Cao was super helpful, kind, knowledgeable. A real pleasure. Thank you!

Great experience - The tour agency does a great job helping organize tours in various places and cities in China. This river cruise was no exception. The scenery is spectacular, unlike anywhere else in the world. The boats are quite comfortable, and the upper deck is large enough to accommodate all the tourists willing to spend time outside to soak in the magnificent panorama. Lunch provided on the boat is quite decent, with an option to purchase some extra items, which I greatly enjoyed local freshwater snails. Our tour guide spoke very good English, was mostly attentive and helpful.

Utterly awesome trip down the River Li - So part of our our wonderful China trip involved a trip to Guilin for a cruise down the River Li and as I am a splelunker, the flute caves. Our awesome guide Samantha took over from the lovely Lola in Xi"an, and picked us up and took us to an absolutely incredible hotel. It was gorgeous, like drop dead gorgeous. We had a chandelier, a chaise longe, balcony, the mattresses and bedding were like clouds, bathroom incredible, and I say all that that as a person in a cast with a newly broken leg! It was like being a film star in a film set. Breakfast was amazing, especially for me as a vegan. The food was incredible. Took a tiny bit of explaining and a chat with the chef, but then once we all understood each other, there were more wonderful things to eat than you could imagine. Vegetables and tofu cooked in sumptuous ways. All for way, way less than a night than any travel lodge in the Uk.
So then we got picked up in the morning and off to the boat cruise. Like I am from New Zealand. Takes a lot to impress me with scenery obviously, right? But this was astounding. And we cruised the shores with bathing water buffalo, if I had not had this cast, I would have jumped in and swum with them. Water buffalo have exceptionally beautiful nostrils. I know this as a vet. There were cruising birds of prey, eagles, cranes, huge butterflies. Enormous fish leapt in the river. I thought they were dolphins, but they were gone by the time I got my binoculars out. Local people from the villages tootled around in sadly plastic versions of traditional bamboo boats, but navigated big currents and river challenges with huge boats and only a bamboo pole, that me as a kayaker with a kevlar paddle would have really worried about. They have and will always adapt. Water people. And you would think there would be lots of people. There very few people we saw were tending water buffalo, although the water buffalo were so off doing their own thing, people fishing in traditional boats( drawing a veil over that as a vegan!) I saw horses swimming in the river, all alone, no bodily constraints, just paddling for pleasure with each other. Those amazing spectacular limestone mountains looked untouchable but our guide told us that there are climbing clubs there. I so want to join one of those clubs and climb one of those incredible spires to heaven. Back at home, Samantha told me to watch The Painted Veil, 3rd time watching it! Thank you Samantha.:-) it was mostly filmed in the River Li years ago, and it's still untouched. This is such a beautiful untouched, remote, easily accessible and accessible in a relatively eco friendly way, beautiful part of China accessible even with a broken leg!

Guilin Review - The views were amazing! Guilin is one of the best spots in China. The Li River cruise was one of the highlights of the trip. I highly recommend the rice field trip in October after the national holidays to see the harvest colors in less crowded times.

Walk in Yangshuo - amazing!! - Lily foi nossa guia no passeio de barco de Guilin até Yangshuo. She picked us up at the hotel and was super inquisitive, telling us several nice things about the tour qué we would do. During the four hours of boating, we went talking, she explained more things to us... super nice, in addition to being a beautiful place! I highly recommend this trip with Lily!! Then she took us to the hotel with the driver to check in and we went on a bike ride through Yangshuo’s rural area. Lily always caring, caring and helpful. We really liked our day with her!!!

Guilin boat cruise with Tom - We highly recommend Tom. He was our tour guide that helped us explore Guilin on a boat cruise. He is very knowledgeable and speaks very good English. He is also a local person who grew up in Guilin, which is a big plus if you want to learn about Guilin and the neighborhood at first hand. After the cruise, Tom took us to local villages, where we explored China from a completely different perspective: we saw farmers, rice fields and plenty of fruit and vegetables growing that we’ve never seen before. Tom is also a great photographer - we have some of the best shots from the whole trip in China.
All in all, if you think about exploring Guilin and the neighborhood while learning about China, ask for Tom and you won’t get disappointed :).
