Highlights
  • Guayaquil - Today, you’ll explore Ecuador’s most dynamic city, Guayaquil. The Malecón along the Guayas riverfront, the charming Las Peñas neighborhood, and the lively atmosphere make Guayaquil the heart of Ecuador. As the country’s main port, its strategic location and infrastructure facilitate international maritime trade. We’ll visit the Malecon 2000, a popular spot that draws thousands, especially on weekends.
  • Las Peñas - Next, we’ll head to the Las Peñas neighborhood, declared a Cultural Heritage site in 1982. Nestled around Cerro Santa Ana, it boasts a unique atmosphere and colorful houses. You’ll hike up 444 steps to reach the hill’s summit, offering a stunning panoramic view of the city. Descend to the base of the hill to cross the Guayas River via the modern aerovia cable car, arriving in Duran. From there, we’ll continue to a cacao farm to learn about the cultivation of this key chocolate ingredient in the lowlands.
  • Guayaquil - After an hour’s drive, we’ll arrive at a local cacao farm run by a warm, family-owned business. In addition to cacao, the family grows other crops like dragon fruit, plantains, lemongrass, and spices. You’ll learn about cacao cultivation, then skin, roast, and grind cacao beans to make your own chocolate. A typical lunch featuring a delicious cacao-based dessert will be served. Finally, we’ll return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Amazing tour, chocolate, coffee beans and more - We were on our way to Peru for a trip with Abercombie and Kent and landed in Guayaquil a day early. I booked this trip which i found on trip advisor and it was amazing. We were so fortunate to have Julio as our guide. He was so informative, pleasant and knowledgable about the good and other issues in the city. He knew exactly where to take us and when when to be careful. We were very happy with the overview of the city, which included the iguana park. The highlight, though, was to visit to the coffee and chocolate farm. We had a lovely lunch there, then, after a short tour had a chocolate making demonstration. The tour ended with us making our own chocolate bars and the opportunity to buy more chocolate and coffee. It was one of the highlights of our trip and i would recommend this to anyone

Great Experience! - Julio was our guide and he was extra amazing. He made us feel very safe and had incredible stories of people he had toured previously. He lived in America so his English was perfect. We were here prior to a Linblad trip and if we were here more days we would have hired him every day! The only negative thing was that when we booked we asked for 10 am p/u and the app kept saying 12 am so getting in touch with actual operator was a challenge and when we did reach out they said the private guide was only for the city tour. Make sure you insist that you have someone that speaks English with you for the drive to the chocolate farm and back. After a brief discussion they were happy to accommodate. I highly recommend this trip! I had no idea there was so much to chocolate!

A Must Do in Guayaquil! - Fantastic way to view the city and venture out to the countryside where cacaos are grown! Our guide was so knowledgeable and helpful for our city tour. We got up close with the iguanas at Las Iguanas park and the cable car ride gave us a panoramic view of Malecón 2000 and Las Penas! The guide at the farm was so friendly and really walked us through the chocolate making process. Lunch was so delicious and they were able to accommodate my gluten free diet. This is a must do in Guayaquil!

THE BEST! - FANTASTIC!!!!! We were originally signed up for another tour but that other company canceled with us the day before the tour, so we quickly signed up for this one with LESS than 24 hours notice, not sure if it would work out. But Cristian called us the night before to assure that they were able to secure a driver and guides for us! We got picked up directly from our hotel by Henry who was a wonderful driver for the day. Julio was our tour guide for the city walk through and he was so friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to be with! He is a gem! The city was just beautiful, clean, and full of fun facts and history. After the breathtaking, grand finale of the cable car ride where you get a panoramic view of the city, we were greeted by Henry on the other side for our next destination. At the Cacao y Mango hacienda, we were greeted by another guide (forgot his name) but he was just a delight with his vast knowledge about the cacao history and chocolate making process. We had so much fun making chocolate and enjoying a 3 course farm-to-table, traditional Ecuadorian meal. The only one downside were the mosquitoes (we forgot our repellent at the hotel) but they provide insect repellent for us which helped for the duration of the trip. The whole trip is one our family will never forget! Our 12 and 13 year olds truly enjoyed it! Thank you to all of our guides, driver, and the company for putting the perfect trip together for us (especially last minute)!
