Must do hike- Exhilarating - I started my hike at the Panlongshan section of the Great Wall (Gubeikou). The first half of the journey, which took about 2.5 hours was fine, probably because of fresh legs. Arrived at 24-eye Tower around noon, and had a break before proceeding towards Jinshanling. This part of the journey takes one down the valley and away from the Wall. My advice is a good hiking shoes because I underestimated the terrain and brought an old sneakers, resulting in a few slips and falls. Nothing treacherous but I could have sprained or even break an ankle. The hike down the valley would take me to West Gate(西门). Here, there is a little shop selling drinks and a rest area. For me, it got tricky after this. This last section towards jinshanling is mostly an uphill walk to the Wall, with very few people on the way. In fact, I didn’t see anyone on this last leg. All I had for lifelines were red, blue or yellow ribbons/markers tied to branches by previous hikers to not second guess if I was actually lost. The whole journey took me almost 6 hours, but it was all worth it.
