A Wobbly Start, A Confident Ride

As a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for activities that are both fun and educational for my family. When I heard about the Salgados Segway Tour, I knew it was something we had to try. The idea of gliding through the beautiful Salgados Reserve on a Segway, while learning about the local wildlife, sounded like the perfect blend of adventure and education.

Our adventure began with a bit of a wobbly start. As a group of novices and intermediates, we were all a bit unsure of our Segway skills. However, the boardwalk provided a safe and pleasant environment, away from any roads or traffic, which was perfect for beginners like us. Our friendly guide was patient and encouraging, helping us gain confidence quickly. Before long, we were all gliding smoothly along the path, ready to explore the wonders of the reserve.

Discovering the Flora and Fauna

Once we were comfortable on our Segways, our guide began to share fascinating information about the local flora and fauna. The Salgados Reserve is a haven for wildlife, especially during the Algarve High Season when many species come to nidify and mate. As we glided through the marshes, we spotted a variety of birds and other animals, each with their own unique story.

The kids were particularly excited to learn about the different bird species that call the reserve home. Our guide’s enthusiasm was infectious, and soon we were all eagerly pointing out different plants and animals along the way. It was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to learn about the importance of preserving natural habitats and the role they play in supporting biodiversity.

Sunset Views and Lasting Memories

As the tour continued, we were treated to breathtaking views of Praia da Galé, both West and East. The ocean was always just a minute away, providing a stunning backdrop to our adventure. As the sun began to set, the sky was painted with hues of orange and pink, creating a magical atmosphere that we will never forget.

As we made our way back, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experience and the memories we had created together as a family.
