Additional Information

Experience the most historical cities in Portugal! If you’re a heritage enthusiast or simply intrigued, read on:

Braga, deeply entrenched in Roman Empire history, is a two-thousand-year-old trade city with a strategic position that was once of service to the world’s hub - Rome, around 1 BC. Originally known as Bracara Augusta to honor Emperor Augustus, the city retains its significance and legacy through the remains and structure of its city center and surrounding areas.

Guimarães, on the other hand, is known as the birthplace of our nationality. It was the scene of our liberation from the Kingdom of León, and the hometown of Afonso Henriques (our first king). It is a captivating city that has retained its medieval structure and architectural characteristics, earning it the title of a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001.

Like a friend taking you around - A lovely day spent with Ricardo at your own pace. It was as if you had a friend taking you around the towns. We saw beautiful sites away from the hustle and bustle of Porto and enjoyed a delicious lunch in one of the many squares of Guimaraes. Basics- The vehicle was spacious, clean and comfortable. Operator was responsive pre-tour. And Ricardo spoke excellent English.

Best tour on the final day in Portugal 🇵🇹 - Don't worry about the limited amount of feedback for Ricardo and his personal company got tours. He was 10 min early and cared about what we wanted to see and do. He was knowledgeable and grew up in the locations of his tours. He went out of his way to even help me locate an extra suit case as we purchased to many gifts 🎁 lol. He even went out of his way to help me stop somewhere to pick my father up a gift and he didn't have too. But he wanted to make sure I was taken care of. I asked him why his feedback is so low even though it's five stars and he replied he dosnt feel right asking and begging for feedback. With that being said of you read this review and take his tour....LEAVE THE MAN A FEEDBACK AS ITS WORTH SO MUCH GOT FUTURE GUEST!!

An amazing time discovering the country's birth on Christmas Eve! - It's Christmas Eve, and I'm visiting Portugal. I decided a guided tour would be fun and educational and take all day before my buffet reservations to feast on bacalhau and batata (salted cod and potato). Ricardo gave us an extra special day! It turned out to just be me and my partner, so he came to our hotel to pick us up, and off we went. As a native, he shared many things along the way on our suddenly private tour about the country, its history, the land, and what we were seeing. Ricardo decided to change things up a bit from his usual path since it was a small group and a special day. First, we went to Guimaraes, learning about Portugal's birthplace and how this area was battled over by mother and son. A goal for my trip was to visit UNESCO World Heritage sites, which this tour is full of, as well as a path of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route! We walked along the castle wall and through many squares, talking to locals and petting cats and dogs among the ripening orange trees as children were enjoying the excitement of festivities in their local square for the holiday. Then, we went to Bom de Jesus, an amazing UNESCO site of stairs, gardens, grottos, and (now) luxury hotel, allowing you a view of the entire town below you. Next, we visited Braga, where my vegan diet was easily accommodated with a quick check-in at another restaurant that Ricardo typically hosts his clients in (which was booked!). After lunch, Braga was now bustling with celebration for a unique local tradition for Christmas Eve- Bananeiro. A new tradition (just a few decades) draws throngs of all sorts of people to enjoy the liquor Moscatel with a banana! For full enjoyment, we enjoyed ours in a less-full garden (still blooming in December!). After more walking and discovery in Braga, it was time to return to Lisbon. But not until Ricardo made sure we got what we needed from the market for the next day when all the shops were to be closed. He let us nod off and kept us engaged when we were awake until we returned to the hotel. It was an exceptional day with a local guide who also does so much more than just this tour! From all the similar choices for this activity, I'd choose Ricardo and Portugal Autentico for anything I wanted to know in that area! (Ricardo and I are already discussing my future as a tour guide ;)

Don’t miss out on one of the best tours from Porto - This has been the most amazing tour I’ve booked! Ricardo was very friendly and went beyond his scope to make this tour one of a kind. The whole experience was very personal and felt we were among friends instead of strangers. You’ll get history, suggestion on great food and local traditions of the cities you’ll visit. 10000% recommend booking this tour or any tour offered by him. I will definitely be back and book a few more.

Experience Authentic Portugal Through Cuisine and Culture! - Amazing experience with our guide Ricardo! He was very personable and knowledgeable about Portugal, its culture, and history. I would highly recommend a guided tour as many of the sites are spread out and would require time and coordination to get from one to the other. We traveled during the shoulder season when some transportation isn’t running as frequently. It was worthwhile to see more sites and optimize our time with a guide who was able to add so much to the experience. Braga and Guimarãre are beautiful cites with lots of medieval and baroque architecture and historic site beyond just the “big ones” Ricardo also knew of great places to grab coffee, beer, snacks, and lunch. He had tips on additional nearby sites to stop and visit that we would have missed out if we would have tried to do it on our own. Ricardo’s tour was wonderful and he worked to create a day where we could experience authentic Portugal through cuisine and culture!
