GURVANBULAG - GER STAY - HORSE RIDE
Gurvanbulag - Guests will be collected from a designated location in Ulaanbaatar at a convenient time, with a recommended departure around 8:30 am to maximize the day. The journey continues westward to the northern Gobi region. En route, there will be a brief stop at Khar Bukhiin Balgas, the fascinating ruins of an ancient fort used by nomadic tribes from the 10th century. Upon arrival at Gurvanbulag, guests will stay in a guest ger with a nomadic family. Experience the warm hospitality and traditional nomadic lifestyle by participating in making and drinking milk tea, and sampling homemade products like yogurt and dried curds. In the afternoon, enjoy an hour of horse riding in the nearby hills and sand dunes, or opt for a walk. A home-cooked dinner will be served in the evening.
ANCIENT CAPITAL - ERDENEZUU MONASTERY - KHARKHORUM MUSEUM
Kharkhorin - In the morning, travel to Karakorum. The first stop is the Erdene Zuu Monastery to listen to the monks’ chants starting at 10 am. Explore the main temples and wander around the grounds. Arrive at the hostel in time for lunch. Afterward, take a guided tour of the intriguing local museum that highlights Mongolia’s history. In the afternoon, visit a local cooperative felt workshop. For those interested, a walk to the Monument of the 3 Kings overlooking the Orkhon River and the fertility stone at the town’s edge is available.
ELSEN TASARKHAI DUNE - ERDENEKHAMBA TEMPLE - CAMEL RIDE
Elsen Tasarkhai - Today, the journey leads to the Khogno Khan nature reserve, where visitors can explore the lower temple complex of Uvgun Khiid, view the reconstructed temples and prayer wheels, and examine the ruins. A 45-minute hike to the old ruined temple complex in the hills is recommended for its stunning scenery and potential abundance of wildflowers, depending on the season. Return to the valley floor and proceed to the Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes, a 30-minute drive away. Tonight’s accommodation is with a family of camel herders. Settle into the gers and embark on a Bactrian camel ride across the dunes for an hour, followed by a home-cooked dinner.
WILD LIFE TRACK - ‘TAKHI’ WILD HORSES
Hustai National Park - After a relaxed breakfast, embark on the journey back east to Hustai. Arrive at the ger camp in time for lunch. The camp is situated at the entrance to Hustai National Park, allowing some time to relax before exploring the park. In the afternoon, drive from the camp to observe the Takhi horses, which gather at streams for drinking, offering a better chance to see them closely in otherwise inaccessible areas. Consider combining the trip with a long walk in the park, in which case an earlier departure is advisable. Discuss preferences with the guide. Return to camp for dinner and the final night in a ger.
CHINGGIS KHAAN STATUE COMPLEX - ULAANBAATAR
Genghis Khan Statue Complex - After breakfast, depart for the impressive Chinggis Khaan Statue complex, located 180km away. Upon arrival, climb inside to reach the exterior staircase that ascends the horse’s mane to a viewpoint overlooking the Tuul River, Terelj, and the Khan Khentii hills. Enjoy lunch at a nearby resort’s restaurant. After lunch, return to the vehicle and head back to Ulaanbaatar, where guests will be dropped off at a location of their choice.
