Highlights
  • Kamakhya Temple - The Kamakhya Devi Temple, located on Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, is one of India’s 51 Shakti Pithas and a significant pilgrimage site, particularly for Tantric worshippers. A stairway through a vibrant bazaar leads to the temple, which holds both historical and religious significance.
  • Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre - This 170-year-old heritage building, formerly the Deputy Commissioner’s Bungalow, has been transformed into a centre celebrating the legacy of the Brahmaputra River. It features galleries with historical artefacts, photographs, arts and crafts, handloom products, and offers some of the best views of the Brahmaputra River.
  • Assam Rajyik State Museum - Founded in 1940, this museum houses a rich collection of ancient sculptures (stone, wood, metal, and terracotta), including exquisite erotic sculptures, tribal crafts, folk art, natural history, the history of Northeast India, and World War II. It also displays ancient manuscripts, including well-preserved documents written on tree bark.
  • Assam State Zoo - Established in 1957, the Assam State Zoo is situated in the Hengrabari Reserve Forest within the city. Covering 175 hectares, including an 82-hectare botanical garden, the zoo is home to 112 species of diverse flora and fauna. The flora includes various orchid species, while the fauna features the Great One-Horned Rhino, Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Hippopotamus, Himalayan Black Bear, Hoolock Gibbons, and many other exotic animals.
  • Brahmaputra River - The Brahmaputra River is the lifeline of Northeast India, often referred to as a male river due to its immense size and vastness. A sunset cruise on the river is the best way to appreciate its beauty and recognize it as one of the world’s largest rivers.

Guwahati day tour - A well structured trip for a quick tour of main places in Guwahati. Evening cruise was excellent. Our tour guide Mr Bipul was very friendly and gave a lot of information about the local history of the places too. U can a good glimpse of all places. Some places are closed on some days eg emporium is closed on Sunday etc. Plan accordingly. A great trip overall!
