Bulguksa Temple - Bulguksa Temple is a significant relic of Buddhist culture from the Silla kingdom. Constructed during the 15th year of King Beopheung’s reign (514-540), it was built to wish for peace and prosperity for all. Since 1920, the temple has undergone continuous restoration. It now houses seven national treasures and numerous other important heritages, and was designated a World Cultural Heritage Site along with the nearby Seokguram Grotto by UNESCO in December 1995. It is also ideal for a maple leaves tour.
-
Donggung Palace And Wolji Pond - Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in Gyeongju are secondary palace sites of Silla. The palace, along with other secondary palaces, served as the eastern palace where the prince resided, and banquets were held during auspicious events or to welcome important guests.
-
Woljeonggyo Bridge - Located in Gyo-dong, Gyeongju, Woljeonggyo Bridge was originally built during the Unified Silla period (AD 676-935) but was destroyed during the Joseon dynasty. Following historical research, the bridge was reconstructed in April 2018, becoming the largest wooden bridge in Korea.
-
Gyeongju Gyochon Traditional Village - Similar to the Yangdong Folk Village, Gyeongju Gyochon Village is another traditional village featuring old hanok houses, offering visitors a glimpse into life during the Joseon period. A notable site here is the Gyeongju Hyanggyo, a Confucian academy and shrine, where Korea’s first state-operated educational institute “Gukhak” was established in 682.
-
Daereungwon Tomb Complex - The tomb is believed to have been constructed between the late 5th century and early 6th century. Artifacts excavated from the tomb include a gold crown, gold cap, gold waist belt, gold diadem, and gilt-bronze shoes worn by the buried. The gold crown is particularly renowned as the largest and most elaborate of all gold crowns discovered in Korea.
-
Cheonmachong Tomb - Excavated in 1973, Cheonmachong Tomb stands 12.7 meters high with a diameter of 50 meters. Its excavation revealed numerous artifacts, including the famous Gold Crown from Cheonmachong Tomb. The name derives from Cheonmado, a mudguard saddle flap featuring a painting of a heavenly horse. Cheonmachong Tomb is the only tomb in the Daereungwon Ancient Tombs open to the public.
-
Hwangnidan-gil - This street is home to a variety of restaurants, cafes, photo studios, and shops housed in traditional hanok buildings, making it popular among younger generations in Korea. The street also showcases newtro aesthetics due to the presence of old and worn buildings from the 1960s and ‘70s.
-
Cheomseongdae Observatory - Cheomseongdae Observatory is believed to have been constructed during the reign of Queen Seondeok (r. 632-647) of the Silla Dynasty for observing the movements of celestial bodies. It is the oldest astronomical observatory in Asia and is highly regarded as a valuable cultural heritage that provides insight into the technological advancements of that era.
