Mary Valley Steam train - Went in the VIP Club class carriage, lovely, curved, comfortable seats with table. Small cheeseboard at every table, newspaper, water, & 2 glasses to keep. Met the volunteer staff, all were friendly & happy like the loved working on the train. Our carriage hostess, Cherie, was lovely. So friendly & informative, a pleasure to meet her. We set off at 10am from Gympie to Amamoor, passing lovely views on the way. Very relaxing. Drinks were on offer to purchase. Lots of people waved to us as we passed by. Arrived at pretty Amamoor, many people bought hot coffee, hot chips, pies & the like. Our package deal gave us an included meal back in Gympie. We watched the train turn on the turnaround & chatted to the engine driver. After 50 mins we set off on the return trip, very tasty meals served in the Rusty Nail cafe for us with dessert, wine & beers. A magical day. Thank you to all

fantastic experience - did this steam train journey today. my advice is to stay in gympie the night before if you travelling afar, everyone at the historic railway station was super friendly, not a big breakfast menu, but food available was really fresh there is also a small gift shop the train trip was certainly very different from modern trains, a little bumpy and swayed abit but you started to just go with it we are so spoilt these days, there is a dining car, toilets, wheelchair friendly

What an amazing experience! - I enjoyed a day from Gympie to Amamoor with my Dad and dog. As we travelled with a pet we were lucky to get a whole carriage to ourselves. From arrival the staff were beyond helpful and informative to ensure every traveller had an amazing experience. The train itself is amazing and it’s clear to see all involved ensure it’s maintained to ensure this piece of history will be around forever.

Absolutely amazing! - What an amazing experience we had. We had a very lovely conductor who was so knowledgeable about our trip. He was also very friendly and helpful assisting my elderly mum. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is coming up to Gympie. Thank you again for a great day. The Lewis Family.

Beautiful winter activity - Such a beautiful winter activity. Good value for money, the travel time is about 30min + each direction. Time for stops and activities and facilities at the stops. Plenty of parking and the volunteers are wonderful. Love the smell of the steam and coal!

Train enthusiast’s delight - We booked a VIP experience with a group of friends and were very happy that we did. We were warmly welcomed and looked after by volunteer Deb and enjoyed the commentary as we journeyed from Gympie to Amamoor. Our VIP ticket included snacks during the journey as well as a meal in the refreshment room on our return to Gympie station. At Amamoor we were entertained by a singer and her guitar and could purchase coffee and snacks or visit the local shop. Trainspotters could watch the steam engine swap ends, including being rotated on the turntable. In all, a most enjoyable experience and full credit to all the wonderful volunteers of the Mary Valley Rattler.

Magical Day - Wow..what an amazing day . From the cafe to the souvenir shop to the museum. This is all before you even get to the steam train. No one should miss out on this incredible adventure. With a magical ride on the steam train. With some stops along the way . With some amazing volunteers . Margie was so amazing and helpful. Back to the end of the day with a lovely lunch in the restaurant. The one thing I thought was fantastic is there is a carriage for dogs and owners. If you haven’t given this a go you are definitely missing out .

The Mary Valley Rattler - VIP trip - The staff were very friendly and the vintage boxcar was fantastic. The journey there and back was full of stories and personal insight from the locals. The only downside would have been minimal markets. Missed opportunity. Would have loved to see markets to buy outback goods etc. when at the big stop. The cheese and wine tasting was good on the return trip. Would definitely recommend the VIP trip.

Disappointing - Seeing the steam engine up close was interesting. However the whole journey was uncomfortable and the scenery not overly exciting. The guide was unable to answer the questions we had.
