After a tiring overnight bus ride from Hanoi to Ha Giang, which arrives around 3:00 AM, you’ll have time to rest. Post-breakfast, prepare for the trip with our tour guide, who will arrive at 9:00 AM to assist with preparations and provide a detailed itinerary overview using a map. For those opting to self-drive, there will be time allocated for driving practice.
Đèo Bắc Sum - Begin your journey with a stunning view just 20km from the city. Marvel at the natural beauty of mountains, forests, and bamboo trees blending with flowing rivers and immense dams. Ride uphill to Bac Sum Pass, navigating 20 winding curves known as the ‘snake road.’ From the summit, enjoy a panoramic view of the landscape and valleys, spotting hidden villages of ethnic minority groups.
Quan Ba Heaven Gate - Continue to the Heaven Gate in Tam Son, situated over 1200m above sea level. Witness spectacular limestone mountains and vast valleys. Visit a viewpoint to see the Twins Hill and explore Nam Dam, a clay house village home to 100% Dao ethnic minority people. Learn about their local culture and unique clay house architecture.
Lung Tam Linen Cooperative - Visit a local family who weaves fabric from ‘hemp’ to create traditional clothes. Experience their daily life and traditional craftsmanship with guidance from our tour guide. Continue the motorcycle journey along the river towards Yen Minh, passing through lesser-known country roads, breathtaking landscapes, and hidden villages. Stop at the peak of the loop road for a valley overview.
Yen Minh - Arrive in Yen Minh Town and stay at a homestay. Enjoy free time to rest, have a beer, or take a shower after a day of driving.
YEN MINH - THAM MA ROAD - H’MONG KING PALACE - LUNG CU FLAG TOWER - THIEN HUONG ANCIENT VILLAGE - DONG VAN: 80KM
Viewpoint dốc Thẩm Mã (trên) - After breakfast at the homestay, prepare for a long driving day. Drive for about an hour to Tham Ma Road, a challenging route with 9 winding curves. Known as ‘Tham Ma’ or ‘testing horses,’ this steep road has historically tested the endurance of horses in Ha Giang.
Dinh Vua Meo - Visit the palace of the king who ruled the mountain region in the 18th century when it was an autonomous area. Admire the ancient Hmong architecture and learn about Vietnamese history, culture, and the formation of the local people.
Lung Cu Flag Tower - Visit Lung Cu Flag Pole to see the border area between Vietnam and China. Enjoy splendid views from the flag pole or observation point. If time permits, visit Lo Lo Chai village, home to the Lo Lo ethnic minority, and see their traditional clay houses. Have lunch at a local restaurant.
Dong Van - Arrive in Dong Van in the late afternoon, just in time for a well-deserved dinner after a day full of adventures.
Dong Van Town - Ma Pi Leng Pass - Nho Que River Canyon - Meo Vac Town - Mau Due Valley - Du Gia Village: 100km
Ma Pi Leng Pass - After breakfast, depart from Dong Van Town. Ride through the most beautiful section of the journey on Happiness Road, connecting Ha Giang and the geopark area. Ma Pi Leng Pass, known for its rugged cliffs and breathtaking views, is the most challenging pass in northern Vietnam, often called the “king” of passes. The road winds through cliffs, reaching an altitude of 2,000 meters.
Nho Que River - Reach the Nho Que River and enjoy a 360° view from a mountain viewpoint. Ride to see the panoramic view of Ma Pi Leng Pass on a boat trip, capturing unforgettable pictures. Continue to remote villages to learn about the lives of people in distant parts of Vietnam. The region features stunning natural landscapes, including granite outcrops, rice terraces, hanging valleys, and mountain-carved roads.
Du Gia - Return to the homestay in Du Gia, a pristine village with a peaceful, rustic beauty. The Du Gia waterfall flows year-round, attracting adventurers seeking inner peace. The journey to the waterfall is challenging, but the serene scenery is worth it. Enjoy the fresh air and immerse yourself in nature, leaving behind life’s worries. Remember to bring your swimsuit, towels, and sunscreen for outdoor activities. The tour guide will provide drinks before heading to the waterfall.

Viewpoint Lũng Hồ - After breakfast and bidding farewell to the homestay host, continue the journey. On the last day, enjoy the breathtaking beauty of nature and landscapes. Drive for two hours to a famous valley with awe-inspiring terraced rice paddies and immense dams. Explore the vast hemp fields in the Hmong people’s valley on the rustic Duong Thuong Road.
A Boong Waterfall - Spend time enjoying the waterfalls with friends.
Ha Giang - Return to Ha Giang in the afternoon. Enjoy lunch at the Quiri Peninsula restaurant and bar with delicious dishes. You will have enough time to catch a bus or limousine back to Hanoi. Choose between a night bus or an afternoon limousine based on your schedule and preferences. For motorbike riders, we recommend arriving a day before the tour to review safety procedures. Non-riders can join for lunch on Day 1 before the bike journey begins.
