Ultimate Guam Self-Guided Driving Tour

Embark on a self-guided driving audio tour of Guam’s historic wonders, from ancient Chamorro culture to WWII battlegrounds, while enjoying beautiful beaches and popular landmarks.

Duration: 6 hours
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Chamorro Village - Ancient Chamorro society revolved heavily around agriculture. The Chamorros created a 13-month calendar based on moon cycles to track the changing seasons. This allowed them to know precisely when to begin planting or harvesting certain crops each year.

Note: This 93+ mile-long tour covers the essentials of Guam in 5-6 hours.

  • Puntan Dos Amantes (Two Lover’s Point) - This is one of Guam’s most poopular attractions for good reason. A balcony juts out over a dramatic drop to the ocean below, affording visitors breathtaking views of the coastline. This point is also deeply rooted in the history of the indigenous Chamorro people and gets its name from an ancient legend you’ll hear when you visit.
  • WWII Memorial “The Last Mission” - This simple, unassuming monument commemorates a hugely significant moment in World War II: The final mission of the war. An American bombing run was launched from Guam, and on their way back the bombers learned via radio that Japan had surrendered, finally ending the years-long war.
  • Ritidian Point - Ritidian Point is the northernmost point of Guam. The vista here is one of the best on the entire island, so make sure you have your camera! While you take in the views, you’ll also hear about some of the island’s most incredible wildlife.
  • Onward Mangilao Golf Club - Folks looking to hit the links can’t do much better than this! Designed by world-famous golf course architect Robin Nelson and featuring sweeping, panoramic views of the ocean, Onward Mangilao Golf Course has been named one of the top 100 golf courses in the entire world.
  • Country Club of the Pacific - Another great place to admire the Pacific while practicing your swing. This 18-hole golf course is dotted with coconut trees and feels like a little slice of paradise. It’s also one of the oldest on the entire island.
  • Malojloj Falls - These natural falls are not only beautiful, but they’re also great for more adventurous sorts looking to do some cannonballs! At their highest point, the falls reach about 25 feet. Not too daunting but great for a bit of adrenaline.
  • Inarajan Natural Pool - Inajaran Natural Pool is an absolute must-see. The rocky, natural saltwater pool is fully sheltered from the ocean waves, so it’s full of colorful fish flitting around the reefs!
  • Merizo Bell Tower - This bell tower dates back to the early 1900s and holds massive significance for the local community. It nearly collapsed from erosion in the early 2000s, but was repaired and refurbished and now is as sturdy as ever.
  • Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad - This somber ruin, known in English as Our Lady of Solitude Fort, was built by the Spanish to protect galleons coming into the bay with goods. Rumors of buried treasure have long circled the structure, but no one has ever found so much as a single doubloon.
  • Mount Lamlam Summit - Believe it or not, it’s true! Although it gets there by cheating a little. You see, the vast majority of Mount Lamlam is underwater. In fact, it stretches all the way down to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the lowest known point in the entire ocean. At its lowest point, the Mariana Trench is over 36,000 feet deep. So this is TECHNICALLY the world’s tallest mountain, standing at almost 38,000 ft. Everest is only 29,000 ft! And now you have some fun trivia to keep in your back pocket.
  • Sella Bay Overlook - This overlook also boasts a hiking trail down to Stella Bay. It’s about a 45-minute walk, but near the end, you’ll also find an old Spanish bridge that makes for some great photos.
  • Piti Guns - These three monstrous 140mm cannons were set up by the Japanese military to defend against an American assault on the island. Today, they’re still remarkably intact, though the ever-encroaching jungle has lent them the appearance of having been long, long forgotten.
  • Latte of Freedom - “Latte” is a Chamorro word for structures comprised of stone pillars with a cup-shaped stone on top. This enormous cement tower offers great views in all directions, and functions as a Guam equivalent to New York’s Statue of Liberty.
  • Guam Pacific War Museum - Those looking to dive deeper into Guam’s role during the second World War will find lots to like in this compact and fascinating museum. Perhaps just as interesting as its many exhibits are the fact that this museum was built and filled not by the government but by one individual!
  • Plaza de España - This beautiful plaza was originally home to the Spanish Governor’s Palace during Spain’s occupation. Over the years, it has traded hands more than a few times but remains just as picturesque as ever.
  • Our Lady of Purification - This cathedral dates all the way back to 1669! It has been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times over the centuries, and remains today as an important part of Guam’s capital.

Guam’s history with all the views - It was great for quick day trip. The optional 1.7 mile hike is pretty intense, but beautiful! Thoroughly enjoyed the drive and audio accompaniment.

Driving tour of Guam - In general, the app worked well . It provided a good basis from which to see much of the island. Probably, the most salient weakness was the shortage of information about any of the spots. We also found it challenging a couple of times to get back to the correct spot when we diverged from the suggested route. Overall, we enjoyed using the app, and it did provide a useful way to see much of the island that we would’ve otherwise missed.

You won't be disappointed! - This was a great app and so worth the money! I am glad the other comments said to download it and use it on your first day at Guam so you can see and hear about places in Guam you might want to go back and visit longer which is what we did! We learned SO MUCH about Guam and the Chamorro culture from this app and are very pleased with its offerings. I agree with the others, I wish there was more information, but maybe they didn't want to do information overload? Overall, we are super satisfied with this app and love that we can go back in and review the information in more detail whenever we want or to visit places we heard about through this app.

Great information and easy to use. - We had a great time exploring the island and learning about the history along the way. My son and his wife are stationed in Andersen and he said,”because of this tour, we have seen more than we probably would have ever seen on our own.”

Good way to spend a day - This tour was a good way to see the island. Learned lots of interesting facts along the way. It took about 6 hours because I made a lot of stops. The one annoying thing was that when the narration came on, the driving screen was covered up, so I missed some of the turns and had to back track. There's no reason for the screen to be covered, so that really should be fixed. Also, I wish the car location dot was bigger This app sucks a lot of battery, so make sure you take a charger. I also suggest taking a phone holder that attaches to an air vent to stop it from overheating.

Good intro to Guam! - Good information, got a lay of the land, some key things to know to set expectations and possible enhancements. App works well and I love that I am able to view the transcript anytime I want, like posting on social media so I could educate my friends and family. 1. Follow the map in ascending numeric order. You can start anywhere along the map but if you go in reverse the information on the upcoming location will be after you pass it. 2. Not every point on the map is a “site” to see, some information is historic or about Guam. 3. I was solo and sometimes it would have been nice to have another person in the car. I put my earphones on my phone and the radio on so I could have background sound during down times. 4. speaking of down times, there are some areas that have long gaps of silence, I would try to look at the map and drive so I knew I hadn’t missed anything- another reason for another person. 5. Possible enhancement- along the route we drive through different areas, I think they’re referred to as villages. Perhaps info on that village when you enter would be nice, how did it get its name, what is it about that village. That would help some of the quiet time in the app. 6. Do this when you first arrive. This will give you an idea of where you may want to go back and spend more time. I did get out at some of the points along the way, like Two Lovers Point and a few of the overlooks. I did this in 4 hours with notes of where I want to go back to see something I missed- like the bridge at Sella Overlook. Overall I would do this again. I became familiar with where different sites are around the island relative to my lodging.

Good for first time travelers, may be hard for solo drivers though - Was a little confusing at first but once you get to your starting location the tour automatically starts. If you're driving solo tho it makes it a little hard to pay attention while your driving. Most locations are discoverable with some research and simple planning. The audio guide about the history of Guam was a nice touch though, but still it's something anyone can find on their own, just paying for the convenience. All additional charges like entry into some locations are also out of pocket. Overall it was a good first experience and I might try this type of solo guide for another location. I'd still recommend it to those of you that want an all in one narrated self driving tour.

Nice intro for the money but needs improvement - I’ve used Viator tours before but didn’t feel this was up to their usual standards. There is a lot of down time on the audio that could have been filled with more information. Also, it needs updating. After leaving 2 lovers point, I was exactly on the map in the app, but IRL I was on a pot holed, overgrown road behind a hospital with do not enter signs. Had to make my way back to the main highway and pick up the route again. Guam doesn’t have a lot of signage, so when the audio talks about something you really have to turn it off and look for whatever it is. So, it is very difficult to use if you are alone and don’t have someone helping to navigate. However, it was a good way to see the island on the first day and figure out where to spend more time later.

Tour description inadequate. - Expected (and assured by Viator booking agent) a car was to be included with the tour. Taxi driver had extreme difficulty finding the address - used the map on Viator tour description page to find starting point. A very small (and poorly marked) park was seen; apparently the "starting point" for the tour. Expected to see a business, but nothing there. Called Viator help number, put on hold for about 15 min while they tried to contact tour operator, then told that they would continue trying to reach them and to call back in 30 min. It became obvious that the tour required your own vehicle. As we were visiting from a cruise ship with limited time on-shore, we abandoned all hope and headed to a shopping mall that we intended to visit during the tour. This is the second time that a cruise ship excursion booked through Viator fell through. Very unlikely that we will use Viator again.,
