The Old Fort: Looming Tower view - For the second time on our current holiday: now in northern Japan, we had dramas trying to convert our Viator voucher to an admission ticket each. When we arrived there was a lack of signage in English to direct us where to go; it turns out that you have to line up with everyone else to get the tickets: shortly after getting to the ticket area, we were told that our voucher was not valid & we were asked to leave; we refused to accept that and the lady then took our electronic voucher/mobile to her manager & miraculously we were given two entrance tickets: the moral of the story (twice now) is not to simply accept what people tell you when you have a legitimate voucher from a great company like Viator. As far as value for money goes, it is worth going up the tower & then walking around the large fort area. It is situated just outside central Hakodate: we got delivered by our hotel free of charge. You can get the street tram, walk, bus or take a taxi (if you are rich; we never used one in Japan as they are expensive). We had a cold day (3rd week of October) & a touch only of light rain: good day out: we walked most of the way back to central Hakodate. Definitely touristy but probably something you should plan to do in Hakodate. Knowing the importance & value of these independent & honest reviews, as we are a married couple, over 65, fit & healthy, we provide extensive reviews on our travels, to assist our fellow travellers. We would rate this a solid 4 out of 5. Thank you for reading our review. ALGreynomads
