The Call of the Mountains

The Roopkund Trek had been on my radar for quite some time. Nestled in the Chamoli district of Garhwal, this trek is a siren call to adventure enthusiasts like myself. The allure of the mysterious 300 human skeletons at 15,750 feet, coupled with the breathtaking landscapes, was irresistible. I gathered my group of thrill-seekers, and we set off for Haldwani, eager to conquer the Roopkund Trek.

Our journey began with a scenic drive from Kathgodam Railway Station to Lohajung. The nine-hour drive was a prelude to the adventure that awaited us. The uphill curvy roads were a thrill in themselves, offering glimpses of the majestic mountains that we would soon be traversing. As we reached Lohajung, the anticipation was palpable. We spent the night at a guesthouse, sharing stories of past adventures and fueling our excitement for the trek ahead.

Into the Wilderness

The next morning, we embarked on the trek from Lohajung to Didna. The trail was a mix of steep ascents and gentle slopes, a perfect introduction to the challenges that lay ahead. The air was crisp, and the scenery was nothing short of spectacular. As we trekked through dense forests and open meadows, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the raw beauty of the landscape.

Our journey continued from Didna to Bedni Bugyal, a trek that tested our endurance and rewarded us with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The lush green meadows of Bedni Bugyal were a sight to behold, a serene oasis amidst the rugged terrain. We camped under the stars, the night sky a canvas of twinkling lights, and shared tales of our adventures, each story more thrilling than the last.

The Final Ascent

The trek from Bedni Bugyal to Bhaguwasa was a grueling one, but the promise of reaching Roopkund kept us going. The trail was challenging, with steep climbs and rocky paths, but the camaraderie among our group made it all worthwhile. As we approached Roopkund, the air was thick with anticipation. Our descent took us through Johrangali to Patal Nachaniya, and finally back to Kathgodam. The journey had been an exhilarating one, filled with moments of triumph and wonder. The Roopkund Trek had lived up to its reputation as an adventure enthusiast’s paradise, offering a perfect blend of thrill and beauty. As we made our way back, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment and a longing for the next adventure.
