Able and below, an island fort - A visit to George’s Island is a must when in Halifax. Both the above- and below-ground fortifications are well worth seeing. Angus, our guide for the underground portion, was well-versed in the history of the island, and was able to answer any and all questions thrown at him!

1st visit to George's Island after living in Halifax for 20 yrs in total over my life - Very friendly, laid-back & accommodating staff on the boat & the island. Great tunnel tour, full of interesting information. Learned some new things that I hadn't already known (or remembered) from other tours. Like the option to buy a ticket for whatever time suits you, and then stay until the last boat. We stayed for two hours, but nice to know you could extend that if you wished, by going over earlier. Reminder to travellers that there are toilets on the island but no running water, so be sure to bring water (or snacks) if needed.

Historical Outdoor Adventure - From a distance, the island doesn’t look like much so it was fun to discover everything. And of course one can’t see much - it’s a defensive fort! We did the tour of the underground tunnels and had a great guide. There are lots of signs that describe the island, fortifications and the people. It’s mostly outdoors and we were fortunate to have a beautiful day. One must be able to walk on uneven surfaces.

Check it out - It's super interesting, if you visit Halifax I would recommend taking the tour. Nova Scotia has a lot of history, and it's worth it to go have a look.
