Highlights
  • Salzwelten Hallstatt - The picturesque HALLSTATT owes its existence to the rich salt deposits. Mighty salt chambers were discovered there more than 4,000 years ago. To this day, the “white gold” is mined in the “oldest salt mine in the world” above Hallstatt. With its almost 4,000-year-old past, Hallstatt offers a wide range of activities: the Celtic grave finds, the salt mine, the prehistoric museum, the small area nested houses, the churches, the cemetery with the ossuary and the “oldest pipeline in the world”.
The finds on the world-famous burial ground in the Hallstatt high valley testify to the salty prosperity of prehistoric times. It is thanks to these graves and the finds, which were perfectly preserved due to the special climate inside the mountains, that this epoch was given its own name: the “Hallstatt period”.
  • Hallstatter See - One of the most beautiful things to do to discover the beauty of Lake Hallstatt is definitely a trip on the lake. In the summer months, two different routes across the lake are offered. And if you stand at the stern of one of the excursion boats and watch the foaming waves, you can get a little deeper into the thought of how mankind gained power over the elemental power of the water.
  • Dachstein Giant Ice Caves - Giant Ice Cave and Mammoth Cave.
    Dachstein Ice Cave
    Obertraun
A world formed of water, ice and stone. Cave bears, suspension bridge, light & sound show: The completely redesigned Dachstein giant ice cave offers a breathtaking adventure in rock and ice.
The temperature in the caves ranges from -2°C to +6°C, warm clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended
  • Mammoth Cave - Superlative cave labyrinth
The endless expanses of the Dachstein massif from the inside - the huge mammoth cave will inspire you with incredible dimensions and a play of colors that you would not expect under the earth of the Salzkammergut!

The name Mammoth Cave was chosen by the explorers because of the enormous dimensions of the underground rooms and corridors in this cave system. More than 70 kilometers of these corridors have currently been explored, almost one kilometer of which can be hiked through on guided tours
