Incredible experience, don’t miss this adventure! - An amazing and unforgetable experience. Our guide, Domica was professional, knowledgable, patient and kind. We saw many elephants (up close and personal!), water buffalo, monkeys, monitor lizards, iguana and beautiful birds (we especially liked the painted storks, beeeaters and kingfisher). We were amazed by how many animals there were despite the heat and it being mid day. It was very special to see baby elephants and to watch two juveniles playin the water. Our driver was wonderful as well. He kept us safe and informed on our hour+ drive from the Hambantota port and pointed out many animals along the way. We loved our time with him as well. Thank you!

Fabulous experience - We booked this trip as an alternative to ships excursion, the reserve is 1hr travelling time from the port of Hambantota. Our driver was lovely and very helpful. It was a truly amazing experience, park guides point each other to sightings. We saw elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, deer, monkeys, several colourful birds, snakes, chameleon and iguana. It’s a 3step ladder to climb into the truck, it’s a very very bumpy ride. Make sure you have been to the rest room first! Water is provided on the jeeps. Use sun lotion on your arms. Our experience around the reserve was 3.5hrs. Booking process was so easy, we had originally booked the full day, but Sam the tour provider got in touch straight away to say we wouldn’t have enough time to do the full day and suggested we change it to half a day, difference in cost refunded immediately. If you decide to do this trip, you won’t be disappointed.

Many elephants and more - Truly enjoyed our safari in Udawalawe. Pickup and drop off at the port in Hambantota were flawless. Enjoyed the drive to the national park where we were able to stop along the way and feed an elephant some corn cobs. At the park we saw so many elephants - males and females, adults and children. We saw a pregnant elephant, one feeding itself grass and a 3 elephant herd. In addition we saw peacocks, water buffaloes, deer, an alligator and many different birds. Lunch was with about 20 others along the river bank and was very good Sri Lankan food. There are toilets at the park entrance (very nice) and lunch spot (rough, but useable). We did a whole day safari. We did see other vehicles as we roamed the park, but you did not feel the park was over crowded. Our guide got us back to our cruise ship at our requested time. It was a great day.

Great experience, well cared for! - We give 5 stars for Sam Perera, who was a great communicator from start to finish, and to our driver, Pradeep, who showed unusual kindness and care. Sam was great at answering all questions prior to booking. After a brief moment of confusion at the port when the name of our driver was unclear, Sam’s responsive reply on WhatsApp cleared up the confusion. Pradeep then drove us to the park, made sure we connected to the Udawalawe guide, took us to lunch and the elephant milk-feeding station, and then to the remote Sankapa Ancient Temple before safely returning us to the port. We were particularly touched when Pradeep and the temple guide provided physical assistance to me when my fear of heights interfered with climbing up a rock for a spectacular view. On the way back to the port Pradeep spontaneously stopped on the side of the rode so we could taste some rambutans, and at the port he waited and waved at us as we entered our ship. We only wished we could have spent more time with Pradeep to get to know him better.

Fun and Interesting - Our drivers (Sara and Kumar) were very professional and seemed to care that we had an awesome experience. We saw many elephants and Sara was very knowledgeable. He also stopped to point out the small beautiful birds and his sharp eyes even spotted a chameleon. I would recommend a half day trip as the bouncing in the back of the jeep is tolerable but gets old after 3 hours. I also want to give praise to the restaurant at the end of the trip. For 10 US dollars we had a feast of very tasty authentic Sri Lankan food. The ride to and from the experience was comfortable.

Udawalawe Adventure - The port pick up worked really well - on time and easy to find. We did the half day tour but still saw quite a few animals. The roads were very rough so pleased we did the shorter trip. Driver and guide both good.
