Private Cruise with Amazing Sails - We did a lot of debate whether a private cruise was worth it. We really enjoyed the day. They spoiled us from pick up to drop off. Alex (Vuong sp?) was our guide but all of the employees were incredibly accomodating. I had read bad things about the crowds and trash in Ha Long Bay. Amazing Sails missed all of this. We are very glad we did the private cruise with Amazing Sails.

Brilliant Service - Excellent day trip to Halong Bay with an amazing tour guide, Hung. Although it was raining the day we went. Hung is very friendly & knowledgeable. He was taking photos of us where we couldn’t as we were enjoying the trip. Our waiter on the ship , Son also delivered excellent service on our journey there & back. Son Hung delivered brilliant customer service & we will approach them again on our next visit. Great job guys 😊

The best halong bay tour experience and Vietnam tours !!!. Good prices and Value for Vietnam trip ! - We did an 14 night package through Indochina Tours, starting in Hanoi - halong bay - Phong nha tour - Hue tours - Hoi An tours - Ho Chi Minh city. From the 1st contact with agent local travel expert team, everything was so easy. They provided details of additional tours we could book on free days and everything went according to plan. All transfers/pick ups/guides etc went smoothly and the English speaking guides were friendly and helpful. I would certainly book through Indochina tours again if we were to return to Vietnam :). Excellent tour to halong bay - Experience with viator was excellent. Tour as comfortable, luxurious, well organized and thank you for arranging vegetarian food. Tour guide was very good and communicative.

Very Relaxing Trip - Phong was a great tour guide! He made sure everything was okay and he brought jokes with him that made the whole day entertaining :) He was very knowledgeable and spoke great English too! The trip was very relaxing! Picked up at our hotel on time. We were just 4 in the boat and we had it all to ourselves! Food was great, from the appetisers to the main course! Love EVERYTHING about it ❤️ On our way back, we had snacks and they taught us how to make flowers out of veggies :) Overall, it was great! You get the best value of what you pay for :)

luxury it was not - given at almost twice the price, i thought it would be more luxury, maybe that simply isn't available in Vietnam. The regular tours to Halong bay is half the cost. the coach service to and from did not justify the extra cost, i still had to get myself to old quarter, or extra fee for pickup is charged, and it isn't cheap. Communication was a real problem, if I didn't call, i imagine I would have missed the tour all together. The boat itself, and food (lunch) also didn't justify the extra cost. So, let's start with the payment process, that was easy and quick to charge you. The information on transport and hotel pickup is confusing. what i figured out was the tour company outsources transport services, so it really doesn't pay to pay more for the tour. your travelling with people that paod half the price for the same tour. I thought paying more for the tour would get me limo service, and hotel pickup inclusive. that's not the case. Next came the boat the most important and lunch, It was acceptable, but hard to differentiate and justify twice the price tag. you still have to pay for drinks and boy do they charge you for that. given the already higher price, it should have been included. I think given the Asian culture here, no monetization opportunity is missed, you are charged at every turn. drinks extra, tips to boat crew extra, tour guide tips extra. Now if I had paid the normal $56 tour package, I'd say ok, but this double priced luxury tour is deceptive I thought, because you paid the price, butvwas sold a watered down tour not so different from the regular priced package. The tour itself was fine as with the activity, but there would be a next time, id just pay for the $56 package

There's got to be a better option than this.... - I am being kind with the 3-star rating because I don't know who to exactly blame for our poor experience, so I will just share a blip from our experience to help others make an informed decision. First: do not plan this outing on a day where you have a flight or dinner reservation or bus trip. Block the entire day from 7:30am till maybe 10:30pm. We were told by the tour company that we would easily be back to our hotel by 8pm, but that is not the case (and I don't think it was our guide's fault - I honestly have no idea if the company and guide even communicate). Once our enthusiastic guide, Hiep (or Steven as his Western name), told our bus our itinerary, many groups were quite assertive that we were promised an earlier return by the company. This created stress for our guide and for all the guests on the excursion. So if you know that your calendar day is completely booked, you can avoid this stress. Positives: The bus was comfortable and we had an amazing driver. Our guide really wanted to make our experience fun. And Ha Long Bay - wow! It's a must see! Negatives (aside from the time miscommunication): Pick-up should be one location. The bus should not be wasting time navigating the busy side streets of Hanoi. Additionally, while I know tour companies are contracted to side-stops, they weren't enjoyable. Food on the boat: it wasn't good. If you do opt for this tour, bring a small side of soy sauce and salt. The food lacked flavor. Oh and the wine was awful, but that's no one's fault except the winery in Vietnam. The bathrooms were pretty yucky, so bring wipes and tissues. The boat tour was typical from what we saw: three stops. The bay was majestic. It is a must-see, but I know there has to be a better way to see it. Thank you to Hiep for getting us to the hotel to catch our airport transfer despite the communication glitches.

Not amazing - don’t book the Amazing Sails trip with Viator - I was keen to visit Halong Bay, but had read many reviews about the main sites being overcrowded with tourists. After a lot of research, I chose Amazing Sails because they offered “ Visit both Bai Tu Long Bay and Halong Bay in 7 hours of cruising on the longest, quietest, and most unique route that bypasses all tourist attractions. I also wanted to go on the wooden boat with sails advertised in the pictures, with a ‘cozy and luxurious atmosphere’ and day available. I paid a premium for this trip, which I booked through Viator. I did not got the trip I paid for. Viator subcontracted the booking to another firm who took us on a trip on standard tourist boats without sails or cabins. We sailed with Dream Cruise rather than Amazing Sails. The route was the standard, over-crowded tourist circuit and not at all relaxing. Lunch was served as soon as we boarded and we were sitting in the middle of the boat without any view of the bay. After lunch we disembarked at Ti Top Island. I joined a long line of tourists climbing up the hill. At the top of the hill, there were so many people it was difficult to see the view. I spent 5 minutes at the top and then joined the long line of people climbing back down the steps. At the bottom I had just enough time to go to the toilet and then needed to be back on the boat again. After ten minutes more sailing we disembarked to see Sung Sot cave. Although this is an amazing cave, walking through as part of a conveyor belt of tourists, being shouted at to keep moving when trying to wait 3 seconds for a photo to take in the dark, was not my idea of fun. By the time we got back into daylight, we had to get straight back onto the boat. Another 10 minute sail and we disembarked again to either canoe or be rowed for 10 minutes around a lagoon. We then had about 45 minutes sailing back to Halong, before the 2 1/2 hour journey back to Hanoi. This trip was everything I was hoping to avoid. I could have booked this trip for half the price Viator charged me for the Amazing Sails trip. I’ve given 2 stars to recognise that Halong Bay is beautiful and also that the guide on our trip worked really hard all day long to make sure the complex plans worked smoothly. There must be better ways to appreciate such a lovely environment.

Disappointed. - The sails on the boat were nonexistent and the food was low quality. The time agreed upon for our return did not happen and several people were put in a bad spot because of this. When questions were asked to the guide, he was not truthful and avoided answering completely. I would not recommend this tour.
