Ha Giang - A border province and official Frontier Area, Ha Giang lies in the remote far northern region of the country. To visit this province is to journey back in time and encounter some of Vietnam’s most rugged and grand landscapes. Ha Giang is best experienced as a road trip on two wheels, soaking up the majesty of the landscape and the atmosphere of the remote towns and minority villages.
Quan Ba Heaven Gate - Quan Ba Heaven Gate is a unique Ha Giang attraction located at a height of 1500m above the sea. It is the main gate leading you to the heaven of Ha Giang – the land of a majestic rock plateau.
Yen Minh - Yen Minh lays between Quan Ba and Dong Van, on the south-western edge of the Dong Van Plateau. Thus it makes for a natural stopping point once you’ve travelled through Heaven’s Gate on the way to Dong Van proper.
Yen Minh – Dong Van – Meo Vac – Ha Giang (B, L, D)
Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark - After stopping at the immigration office to purchase the mandatory travel permit we set out into Ha Giang proper. We make a stop along the way at the H’mong Palace, a beautiful structure constructed by the French and Chinese, leading to an interesting fusion of styles.
We then travel to Meo Vac Valley across Ma Pi Leng Pass, which perches on the very edge of a mountain range and offers some breath-taking views over the Nho Que River. You then descend into the valley, arriving in Ha Giang Town at around 18:00 for dinner and an overnight stay in a Tay homestay.

Accommodation: Mr Doan homestay
Meals: lunch in local restaurant, dinner in homestay
Dinh Vua Meo - Vuong Family’s Palace is one of the few sites in Ha Giang travelers can visit for magnificent architecture and historical values. The mansion is about 14km from the town of Dong Van, in the locality of Sa Phin Commune.
As the residence of the one who was hailed ‘King of H’mong people’, the palace was surrounded by two walls built from carved stones. The outer wall is 60cm thick and 2m high. The inner wall is even thicker and more robust. In between these walls, a row of oleanders was planted on the 50m-wide land.
The Vuong family’s Palace is just like a stone castle among the nature, protected by the high canopy of special trees in Ha Giang. The mansion itself is a masterpiece of architecture, taking 10 years of construction to finish as it’s seen nowadays. At the time the mansion was built, the amount of money spent on its expense was considered a very large sum which equalizes about 150 billion of Vietnam Dong.
Meo Vac - If you’re coming from Dong Van, the highlight of your trip to Meo Vac is likely to happen as soon as you cross into the district, namely the jaw-ping Ma Pi Leng Pass.
The road running through the pass is carved right into the side of the mountain, and as you climb to the 2000 meter high peak, you will witness some of the greatest panoramic views Vietnam has to offer.
Ma Pi Leng Pass - Visiting Ma Pi Leng Pass allows travelers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region while also experiencing the rich cultural heritage of the local ethnic communities. The journey along the pass is an adventure in itself, with numerous opportunities for hiking and motorbiking.
Ha Giang – Hanoi (B, L)
Ha Giang - As you return to Hanoi, we will take you on the less trafficked route back to the capital, following a snaking a river and going from one amazing mountain pass to the next. You are likely to get a lot of attention from the locals here whenever we stop, as they rarely see foreign travellers. Eventually we stop in Duong Lam Village for lunch and some exploration of the hundreds of ancient houses located here before finishing our journey and arriving in Hanoi around sunset.
Highlights and activities: Duong Lam village
Accommodation: Not included
Meals: breakfast in homestay, lunch in local restaurant
Duong Lam Ancient Village - Duong Lam Ancient Village is a special attraction for a Hanoi tour. It is the ideal choice if you are looking to explore the architecture of Vietnamese traditional houses and see the way of life of the rural people in Hanoi.
