Old Quarter - The tour guide will pick up guests by car at their hotel in Hanoi’s old quarter between 7:30 and 8:00 am, and transfer them to Lang Son. The journey begins with a drive towards the Chinese border, lasting approximately 3 hours, before pausing at Chi Lang Pass, a 20km long gorge formed by a narrow valley between two mountains.
Chi Lăng - The journey continues towards the Chinese border for about 3 hours, stopping at Chi Lang Pass, a 20km long gorge formed by a narrow valley between two mountains. This location holds significant importance in Vietnamese history, being the site of numerous victories against various Chinese invasions over the centuries, dating back to 981 AD.
Đồng Đăng - Visitors will have about an hour to explore the area around the Quy Mon Quan Gate, known as “The Gate of Monsters,” named for the many invading forces that passed through the pass only to be repelled by resilient Vietnamese defenders. After lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang, the trip continues into the pass, with stops to visit Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe – a key historical site where The Battle of Dong Khe took place during the First Indochina War.
Mr. Kim’s Homestay - In the evening, guests will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a local homestay owned and operated by a Nung family in Quảng Uyên, Cao Bằng.
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Ba Be National Park - Homestay (Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner)
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - After breakfast at the homestay, the journey continues to Trung Khanh, located on the border with China. Here, guests will have another opportunity to meet and interact with the local Nung people in the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village renowned for its traditional blacksmithing. The farming tools crafted here are essential to the lifestyle, evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields. Among these stunning landscapes lies the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall, spanning over 300 meters and shared between Vietnam and China. Guests will have time to soak in the incredible atmosphere around the falls, offering a perfect chance for some fantastic photography.
Nguom Ngao Cave - After visiting the falls, the next stop is Nguom Ngao Cave, a different yet equally impressive natural wonder. The cave extends for 2,144 meters underground and is filled with remarkable stalactites and stalagmites.
Ba Be National Park - Hanoi (Breakfast + Lunch)
Ba Be National Park - Following breakfast, guests will board a boat to cross the lake to the north shore. From there, a hike begins in the rainforest of the central area of Ba Be National Park. Along the lake’s shores, visitors will reach a prehistoric cave dating back 500 million years, hidden in an ancient forest with rare and hardwood trees as strong as steel. A little further, a fire station provides an opportunity to observe the birds. The hike continues to the An Ma temple, a sacred temple of the Tay people venerating the snake god and military general of the Mac dynasty. Guests can choose how to spend their time on the boat: relax and admire the landscape or take a dip in the lake’s fresh waters. Either way, enjoy the scenery with its beautiful karst formations lined with jungle.
Note: Visitors who prefer not to participate in the walk can choose to stay on the boat to visit Widow Island or do some shopping.
Old Quarter - Return to Ba Be Jungle Houses restaurant for lunch before concluding the tour. Guests will be taken approximately 230 km back to Hanoi, with a stop at a tea plantation nestled among rolling hills. Upon arrival in Hanoi, it’s time to say goodbye, leaving with lifelong memories and connections.
