This city was once the magnificent seat of the Nabataean Kingdom, and its remnants were concealed from the world until 1812 when Swiss explorer J. L. Burckhardt, masquerading as an Arab scholar, infiltrated the city. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Guests have the option to either walk or take a horseback ride to the Siq’s entrance, a narrow and meandering gorge of sandstone that opens up to the Treasury. Our exploration will proceed along the Street of Facades, through the Roman Theater, and to the Royal Tombs.
